Larry & I have stared a new game testing 3.6.0.88. I have sent Larry the first turn and will post some details of my first turn shortly. (after I had some lunch)
Thought for the day:

Larry & I have stared....

John needs a refill on his Whiskey Sour.

John Fogger are going to try it again. I'm the Soviets and John is the Axis and This is what the front lines look like now. I'll give you
a lot of closeups to explain the situation(s) on the ground. There were on the order of 4K events in the replay and I watched all of them.
There were lots of RBC's so the new rules are in effect for those triple-dot defenders. And there were a lot of Axis air strikes. Lots of
them. I'd be curious to know what the Axis losses in aircraft is, hint, hint.

Here's the northern sector. I don't see an abundance of Panzer equipment in the mix. Maybe they are in the terrain just south of the
image. Or maybe they are hidden by my abysmal theater recon level. I'm leaning toward letting the Soviet equipment in the image
serve as roadblocks and blow some bridges around Riga and along the major river so as to get the Axis to have to repair a bridge or
two before they can get at my troops. I'm pretty sure Riga is John's objective in this image because it's got the key spot on the river to
cross heading northeast. And John wants to head NE I'm pretty sure.

EDIT: Okay, I took a second look at the image and saw SOME Panzer equipment but my point is there's not a lot of it.

Here's the view a little further south. My roadblocks are already set up and it looks like I just need to pull back from this area blowing the
bridges after me. There's little of strategic value in this area for me so giving it up isn't the end of the world. I would like to blow the
bridges over the rivers and streams but John has already captured a lot of those I was going to blow. There's a lot more to blow yet
however. Minsk is getting ready for the appearance of the Axis columns......they usually show up around T3 or so and capture the city
by T5 or T6. But no pressure on John this time. This is just a friendly game after all.

This is the view just north of the Marshes. You can see how John is flowing like water around the hard spots and surrounding and
isolating my Soviet stuff. I see how John has dropped some paratroops to help the advance but I consider them out of position since
they might have been used to hold a key bridge or something. We will have to ask John why he dropped them there where they are
now. I predict that John's losses have been light so far. Hint, hint. Speaking of losses I guess I'll have to post some losses to show
the extent of the fighting which has been severe so far. Lots of RBC's.........did I mention that already?

Here's the situation just SW of the mouth of the marshes and SE of here I plan to build a Stalin Line. But not here. The Axis advance
is steamrolling all my guys. From the image you might get the impression that my roadblocks are holding back the Axis but that would be
the wrong impression. Those Axis guys only just arrived there and haven't really started pushing yet. I expect them to overcome and
defeat the roadblocks in due course. So I'll have to pull back to the south and try to build a semi-porus front line to at least give the
impression to John that I'm trying to hold him back rather than just run to the hills. I'd like to find a river, a major river to defend behind
but those are berift of any benefit to me now, being too far away to use here.

Here's how the air war is going. My planes are falling out of the sky. I'm going to re-institute the draft for more pilots.

In this game I am changing my tactics. Previously I would push everywhere and when I found an opening try and gain as much ground as possible. When it came to enemy units I would push them aside or overrun them. This would result in some of the man power &/or equipment being returned to the pool to be used later. My plan at present is to destroy, in detail, as many units as possible. This means that I have to surround them but in doing so I will not advance as fast as I used to. This is a bit hard for an old sabre troop leader. But this way I am not fighting the same troops twice. I think I have destroyed about 15 divisions on my first turn. Larry can give a more accurate number.

I have started on my second turn and have been able to pocket another 19 divisions. Have not pulled the trigger as I have yet to plot my air attacks. I also have to be careful that I do not cut short my turn as some units have moved their full movement allowance. It is now 2336 hours so I am off to bed.

The top image is my game with Jim Moore and I'm the Japs. I made this map to show me where the ships are that don't have a
functional search plane because of losses. I'm thinking I can drive them all to Cam Rahn Bay and swap squadrons in port and
then I'll be back in business.

The bottom image is my view of some temporary front lines to slow down John Fogger's advance. Notice that they are mostly
along the rivers. This may not work because I've seen John's work before and he takes rivers in his stride and I'm probably
going to have to scramble to get some working front lines up and running somewhere near Osha or just west of Smolensk and
that's not easy. It's a footrace to get to the river(s). I'm blowing bridges as I fall back but John has lots of engineers.
