Road to Tokyo. MrKane(A) vs Spidery(J)
So here it is next story. Firstly some background information. We are playing DBB Scen 28 (Scen 1) without Symon's a/c data. No single house rule.
And this time I am the good one
Spidery did great job during 1942. I have lost "Z force" in day one . Except Noumea & china he fit into historical Japan advance boundary.
China, this is very sad story. Well I did there several mistakes, like enabling replacements for to many corps, to active AVG, as result before April I was completely without supplies. Martin, on other hand move to China all Kwnatunkg, Korea forces as soon as possible. ( no HR to cross country boundary by LCUs ). China is completely in Martin's hands right now.
I retaken Noumea and area in Sep '42 without Japan counter action. Empire lost 1 ID plus some small units (~45k troops total).
Guadalcanal was taken just before end of '42. This time Martin send KB. Carrier clash resulted with huge a/c losses on both side, plus Hiryu and CVL on his side. I have lost Wasp, damaged carrier was sunk by mine on way back to shipyard.
Till now I was slowly advancing towards Rabaul on Salomon Islands. Gilbert and Marshal islands fall into my hands without resistance in March '43.
In India we play "phony war" last couple months. To many Chinese divisions there to make any significant offensive.
Current game time: 25th July, 1943

You are clearly loaded for bear, as we say in the States. I will say no more, since I have read Spidery on this subject. But we all want to hear more.

Battle of Soemba Island. 17th July, 1943
I have move carriers forward towards Makassar hoping to sunk some Japanese shipping in area when landing forces were slowly closing to Java. As result I meet KB and half combined fleet. Battle did not went well. One of my carriers TF react and moved one hex towards KB, as result my forces did not send one strong strike package, but two separate . I have lost ~180 a/c, 4 CVE need shipyard time. Empire losses include ~300 a/c, Hiyo, Junyo + 2 CVL + one Shokaku class and one Soryu class carrier damaged + 1 BB damaged.

You are playing the allied side so lots of room to make mistakes... Your opponent on the other hand cannot afford to lose those carriers as you know so well.
I was advising spidrey a little bit about what I think you are going to do and you certainly do not need my help. Tallyho!!

I am a little confused - the CR shows 19 ships with no DDs in your CV/CVE force?? Did you edit the CR and merge the results for different TFs?
Personally, I would not have CVEs with my big CVs because their slow speed would slow up the big ships and make them easier targets, especially for subs.

CR shows ships attacked by Jap planes in hex for each strike. It does no list TF composition.
For TF composition please check post beginning with text "Operation "Bigfoot" - Landing on Java"
Edit: TF 137 and 90 were in the same hex. TF 83 was one hex off and wasn't bombed at all.

D'OH! (head slap here).
I forgot about your Order of Battle post. Thanks for reminding me.
Good job on the battle! You both have some wounds to lick, but his are deeper. [:)]

Operation "Bigfoot" - Allied troops on beach. 21-22 July 1943.
Amphibious operation went smooth as predicted. Intel was correct, there was no significant resistant form 85th NGU and 3rd SNLF Co.
7th, 24th 25th Divisions plus 767th, 766th Tank Battalions plus 226th, 249th, 183rd, 181st Field Artillery Regiments plus 208th, 260th Coast AA Regiments and 6th Army HQ were on land at day one. Spidery did not send any planes or ships to counter my landing.

RE: Road to Tokyo. MrKane(A) vs Spidery(J)
Battle near Djokjakarta . 24th July, 1943
Japanese taskforce try to intercept my transport ships. My cover forces did not react and enemy intercepted group of British Battleships at night.
Allied ships were almost without ammo and took heavy loses. 2 DD sunk, all 4 BB needs shipyard 30 - 150 days. Carriers planes fail to attack so it seems Spidery will retreat in peace. Intel says Jap lost 3 DD and 1 CA heavy damaged. I was bad day, I cannot afford trade BB for CA
I have support units landing tomorrow so no ships to fallow Japs except a few DDs.
I moved 120 Wildcats, Hellcats, SBD and TBF to Tjilatjap AF (replenish CVEs squadrons). Now I can get replacement a/c on my CV without dock in port. 48 already flu to replenish my carriers airgroups.

Task forces break off...
RE: Road to Tokyo. MrKane(A) vs Spidery(J)
That's tough, but you landed a crap-load of troops & secured your first objective with very little resistance....if the Navy can continue to bleed for you, you'll win overall.
A very well-thought out operation, despite some losses.

Southwest Pacific HQ: Operation "Bigfoot" - 1st wave phase 2.
Under Carriers umbrella two transport task forces are unloading. First has 30k support troops and 80K supplies on board, 2nd one is unloading fighters (8th FG, 35th FG, 49th FG, 51st FG, RAAF squadrons : 54th, 452nd, 457th) and 20K Supplies.
Spidery send his planes to clear sky over my LCUs, Hellcats and Wildcats intercepted his fighters and I trade 9 F6F and 11 F4F for 6 Ki-43, 6 N1K1, 10 Ki-49.
Additionally I have lost 10 F4F and a few SBD, TBD during strike unimportant shipping on other side of island.
I just need hold for five-six more days, and there will be no way to push me out of island.
South Pacific HQ:
339th FS and 68th FS of 347 FG sweep Manus and meet 13 J2M2, 25 N1K1-J, 18 Ki-44-IIc, 13 Ki-84a. 339th did well, but 68th took heavy losses, total 18 P-38 did not return and 11 pilots. It was my mistake, I did not check 68th before action and I did not clean it form 10 rookies pilots added by game silently.

Subscribed. Won't be able to add much advice since I'm following your opponent as well (not to mention I play Japan) but good luck!

Getting some B-25D1s coming out 11 hexes and at 1000' on LowN will really make his fighters work extra hard trying to cover every TF trying to get troops into Java. In my limited experience, those Attack Bombers can dish out as well as they get with all those guns they carry.

Excellent job in Java. I think that can be a deathblow to the Japanese as an Allied holding in Java puts all the DEI oilfields in range. 1944 will not be a fun year for Spidery and the Japanese economy.

Southwest Pacific HQ: Operation "Bigfoot" - 1st wave phase 2 day 2.
Martin send 4 light cruisers with destroyers to night action against my transports. His taskforce was intercepted by Taskforce 309 - RADM Scott Norman.
Isuzu & Kuma sunk, Tama and Kiso retreat with heavy damage. On my side some Hughes is sunk and a few painting scratches on battleships.
SS Seadragon put torpedo into CA Suzuya near Probolinggo.
SS Pompano sunk I-7 by punting into it 2 torpedo near Denpasar.
13 A6M5 & 32 N1K1-J sweep Tjilatjap meeting 50 P-40K, 12 F4F-4 and 10 F6F-3 in air. Both sides lost one fighter. Next 13 K-49-IIa comes with escort 13 Zeros and 15 Oscars, my fighters shot down 8 Helens and 1 Oscar for cost of 1 Wildcat.
Landings:
400 engineers squads, 94 engineers vehicles, 675 aviation support squads and over 600 fighters unloaded. Transports are turning back escorted by carriers to Perth to load supplies.
Second wave is closing. It will start unloading in 4 days and it has on board next 3 Divisions plus tanks and arty units.
Flak value of Tjilatjap just reach value 107, so no risk AF bombing. 3 TFs guard landing, total: 5 old BB, 2 new BB and ~20 DD.
