Nice Touch!

Post by warspite1 »

Although an avid watcher of International rugby matches, I've never bought a Rugby shirt before. I will now [:)]

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/rugbyu ... ation.html

I assume some of the proceeds go to the Victoria Cross Association. I can't think why this would be controversial given who we play Rugby against are mainly countries that have won many VC's themselves or have been our Allies in every major conflict since the VC came into existence.

Thanks for the heads-up. Vegas has a Rigby tournament starting with the top 16 teams of the world. So , when I see visitors with these O2 shirts I will know what story is behind it.

If Elvis himself loved the pink colour then I think anything is fine

And what's wrong with roses? Rose bushes are beautiful. I've got a dozen [8D]

Yes, and I said it is an English Rose, a beautiful symbol of England - like the Thistle of Scotland, the Shamrock of Ireland or the Daffodil of Wales . Why would I not wear it?

BTW, please feel free at anytime to call Brian Moore Tulip Blossom. Just make sure I'm there when you do [:D]

Or make comments about a Kiwi wearing a black jersey with the silver fern leaf, Perhaps they will do the Maori sidestep on you!

I don't agree that they should have the VC on their shirt..somehow trying to make out they are as brave as VC winners..I think not.

Have you read the article? That is not what they are saying at all.

A mark of respect is what I read.

'Although the Association was not previously aware of the RFU's decision to incorporate the motif, following discussions between the Association and the RFU (and taking account of the statement issued by the RFU) it is clear that the RFU did not intend to cause any offence,' Association chairman-elect Major Peter Norton GC said, in the statement.

'Strong links have always existed between the game of rugby and the military.

'The RFU's core values of teamwork, respect, enjoyment, discipline and sportsmanship sit well with the military's core values of loyalty, integrity, courage, discipline, respect and selfless commitment.

'Given that we, as a nation, are now commemorating the centenary of the First World War, and the sacrifices made by so many during that period, the Association feels that the RFU's decision to incorporate a Victoria Cross-inspired motif within the design of the new England shirt is a subtle, and fitting, mark of respect for those who went above and beyond.'

So I don't see a problem.

I don't know. I think rugby stars look sort of like "tulip blossoms" myself. Grown men smashing into one another and wrestling with each other for sport. You never know where they might be grabbing each other in that pile when the cameras can't see them. [:D] [:'(]

Hell John Wayne wore Pink shirts in some of his westerns.

Is that "historical" or are you making that up? [:'(]

For what it's worth, I have seen quite a few John Wayne movies and I do seem to recall him wearing a pink shirt on at least a couple occasions. So I do believe Twotribes is being "historical" here.

EDIT: Just FYI...

Pretty serious line there Warspite1. I'm not sure how to take it. Should I respond in kind or should I walk away?
