Character randomisation bug

I were able to see some random results before, but now i getting Kurkus leader from each single dismiss i managing to do to initial leader with this file.
? order of appearance is not working - This is not random, and if this random order pre-defined per file this is not random.
I think my random results were because other class characters been generated which changed something.
The only possible and normal way to implement is to do it real random : if i need to generate leader - it should pick one of 29 leaders i have as ? or to pick leader from current order number.
Please help - we done huge ton of modding and programming and i cant advance till i see this is fixed.

In attached file character Kakeo is starting leader. I dismiss him and Dismiss put on cooldown.
Every single game i will recieve (with or without restart)

If scientiest generated, and i dismiss - i will get this one :

and so on, seems characters changing the seed
But this is not random, i cant understand logic of some changing factor here, but please just make that if leader dismissed (or any other char) - any character could be generated from the current order pool and ? pool - This is how ? order is described in the modding guide. Random, is just can be generated in any time, this means it participate in every generation pool thru the game.

We released around 7000 race specific characters already, and not getting true random on it will be thing that wont allow to create the intended feature

I stopped my huge Beyond mod development with all new Character system concept till fix because it wont work propely without proper randomization of character retrieval from pre-set race pool using ? appearance order.
It will be really great if you even augment character modding with some more extended features. Thank you.

I feel your pain man. When Legends came out, I focused my testing on the 'new character system' when
Elliot created it. Back then though, we had no randomization.

Nevertheless, in response to your issue, in the Star Trek Picard era mod for Legends, Igard and I created 500 characters
(which was the suggested limit then - image limit only due to memory constraints).
No where close to your 7000 (although I don't know how many 'actual' distinct images you have).

In our current mod, I have over 520 images and hundreds of characters. It's my belief that either there
are too many total character lines (logically breaking something), or a problem with the internal logic
(i.e. - custom characters with '?' appearance order now never appear at game start) that was tweaked in
the 1.9.5.6a update. I also had problems at first with the '?' randomization across not only character
role lines, but also across races (which is manifesting itself again now since the 1.9.5.7 update).

The workaround I have found best is to change all the '?' to '1's. Here is an example from my Federation
race file:

From what I see in the file you provided, load the file(s) into Notepad (or equivalent) and using the
Find / Replace option in the Edit menu change all the question marks to ones. You will have to do this
grudgingly manual if you (like my example) have '?' randomizing some Skills & Traits (which work well BTW).
I have described the issues in our Developmental Forum just recently. Hopefully Elliot will fix
the issue in an update soon. In the meanwhile, see if my 'workaround' helps you. It works for me!

Hey mate. The problem I tried both 1 system (if you have any release of my mod prior .5 you will see it.
It is not working. Its also not random and is broken. 100%.
I just ask very small but critical improvement. All my work is not working properly. It give random results but it requires some character event to reset seed it seems.
Devs, just please fix it to classic really random random where ? Are just pool for each generation.
I will do tests at home later and report on 1s result. But I am used 1s method and it did not worked.

Okay, sorry you're having that problem. Outside of the occasional cross-role character appearances,
I'm not seeing or hearing of any problems from our Picard Era mod using the 1's.

Possibly my other theory may apply. That the total number of character listings is too many and
throwing something off. Whatever it is, hope Elliot will soon chime in and address whatever it may be
for all us modders' behalf.

Yes, its much appreciated and anticipated fix. Characters is very complex way to redefine races actually. It have great potential and it would be great to receive support for this feature. I know how characters implemented in your mod, and I like it. In Beyond the design its different -race specialization, group system and 300-500 chars per race with unique naming logic per race and lore influenced structure and bonuses. There is one race with unique portraits but the plan is all to be unique. Races with CS done have race PNG + group logo as placeholder.
I really hope and need this fix in order to continue.

Hey Mate , i found temporary fix. It will make my modding much harder, and will require X2 size on racial character systems .

The mixed way of 1 and ? - 50%/50% seems solving part of problem for me, but it makes modding WAAAAAY too complex with the tools i got.

Please, dear devs, fix this in closest patch, it is really needed for some 2 very nice and potential projects.

Another small request for fix on a characters


Currently if goverment set to replacement of leaders from non-leader character pool (governors, generals, scientiests) character completely reset their skills, even if the skills exist in leader skill list. This approach cant create any strategy, design.. nothing. Randomization breaks completely this even, deleting character from other role and regenerating him with random abilities, like he got complete new self.
Please fix it to the mechanic where character which usurp leadership possess his old skills, if they appear in leadership skill list (perhaps losing some % of them). This way alot of modding possible, goverment and character design get alot of new possibilities.
Thanks in advance. Obcourse the randomization fix is the vital thing, but any attention towards character modding would be appreciated. Thank You.

another bump for this - there another problem, which makes my trick (of combating games randomization bug) of combining 1s and ? problematic as well - due qty of loaded characters.
It ruins my mod implementation, messes it up, and makes character modding possible only on paper - please expand character limits to really big ones, and fix randomization process with ? order, so it will be really random and pick random characters always from ? order pool.
Please, this is very important for huge work i did already and continuing to do.

The game pours all order ? characters to player at start (it shoudl not do that by all definition of appearance order mechanics). Also oddly enough i didnt had that problem when i performed my test runs.Is this memory problem of sorts?
Please help.

Dear Erik and Elliot.
I think I found another bug that happens after I released my update a.62 (may be it happened before but I just noticed it) .
A.62 already have 26 races with 400-600 custom racial characters.
I was not able to to photo it but when I run full auto test games (with mortalen race specificly - didn't noticed that on other races but I will check them) at some game point , having more than 10 characters , character list "cleans" himself and race being left with strictly 4 characters with others simply disappearing.
I saw 2 automated games like this and galaxy was medium sized with medium qty of the races.
I am sure this is related to some memory/limitation issues. Also before I did not saw such issues.
Please check this issue and help by lifting any memory limits in order to have huge mod done by me and beyond team be fully operational. Thank you for your support.
