Why do AI fleets never attack monsters?

Post by Tanaka »

Should they not be programmed to attack monsters like they do enemy fleets? They attack enemy fleets just fine when in same system but always leave monsters alone to destroy whatever they want to. Otherwise why even have them in the game? Just hinders the AI so I never allow them in my games! I have seen pirates do it though?

AI ships do hunt down and attack monsters. The ai uses individual ships that are automated and that are in the same system. Basically the same way they handle pirate attacks. Within a few years most monsters will be dead expect for the ones that respawn or the silver mist, which the ai struggles with.

Good to know I finally did see this I guess it just takes the AI a lot longer to do thanks!

AI fleets will also respond to monster attacks on say exploration ships by issuing a 'move to system' order, then engage all targets in the system.

I was kinda of vague earlier. What I meant to add is that if you build enough ships that are left on automated, they will over time attack the monsters in your territory, that is systems that have a colony, or a station, or a mining ship with an escort. They don't actively go looking for them, they just attack them if they are in the same system. This is why it takes awhile.

Some monsters will respawn too, like how any planet with spice can have a space slug pop up every once in awhile. The sliver mist are random events and require special tactics which the AI is not up to doing unless they have a fleet in system.

Yeah fleets will attack too if they are in system.
