Post by gilmaor »

Hi, well the formation editor is a bit of a mystery to me, Where can I find a manual for it?

Thanks!

No, relative reference points to the surface group, used for multiple missions you mentioned, will do the job.
You can quickly set up a SAG defense this way.

Your formation set up is a two step process.

First your F4 formation editor where you set your stations and any ships to 'Sprint & Drift' for better ASW detection. An example is this SAG with a Virginia class CGN, C.F. Adams class DDG, an OHP and a Knox. The CGN is the lead, the DDG and FFG providing both ASW & AAW escort and the FF doing a Sprint & Drift out front. You want to leave plenty of room for your S&D ships to maneuver, I think they will need at least 5 NMiles to do the drift. In this case the Ouellet is 10NMiles in front

You next step is to build the Air patrols, all types but most common is the ASW patrol, AAW and AWACS probably ECM and other types if you have a CVBG or CSG.

A couple things to note:
1. If you are not at war yet - make sure your Doctrine is NO for engage Non-hostile targets (default is YES)
2. If you don't want to show yourself, set your EMCON to Passive, default is Active for Patrols
3. You can set your patrol to Active only in the patrol zone which will keep your ships a little more stealthy
4. When using the 1/3rd rule, almost always for ASW patrols, you only need 2 or 4 AC in the mission, 2 will keep one AC on station, and 4 will keep 2 AC on station. In this case I have 2 on mission and one in reserve
5. The prosecution Zone is the outer set of RPs, you must have investigate contacts outside patrol zone ON for this to function properly
6. I like to keep ASW patrols outside the CZ ring of the best sonar in the TG, between the 1st & 2nd rings if you have more than one. It seems to work better, but I'm not sure of the science behind it. The Prosecution zone covers all around the TG

Hope this helps

Think Tomcat had a quickie video on youtube about setting up relative bearing formations.

edit: no sound but it demonstrates it well

Hi, valuable thread. Also wondering how the two-tone tactical map is achieved?
