How to save a map for future use?

Post by ParagonExile »

Hey.

I just spent five hours building my ideal map, with the exact number of races, placements and resources. Is there a way to save it? Every time I've tried to do this before it has failed.

Make a savegame? Then use the special features introduced with Universe to setup a new game and preserving aspects of the map.

Yes, I've done that, but the savegame isn't an option, it's just an empty file :(

Very briefly, I think you have to make it part of a theme for it to work with all the predefined stuff. I don't have time to explain in more detail right now. I will do so later, if no one else replies.

I've got him Osito... [:)]

You need to either create a theme for your map use only or use your map with a working theme
you already have. In the \Customization\Your Themename directory, create a 'maps' folder.
Start a game using the theme, create your map (use the editor to add a description/title to your map if you wish),
exit the editor then immediately save the game. Exit DW and find your savegame directory, once found,
copy and paste the savegame into the aforementioned 'maps' folder. When you start your next game, the
map will be available via whatever theme you used.
Hope this helps....5 hours...bet it was a fantastic map!
Shields are useless in "The Briar Patch"...

Cool, seems easy enough.

Wait... I NEED TO MAKE IT AGAIN?!

Ahhh! lol

Thank you very much; it's mentioned so nonchalantly in the galactopedia I expected it to be a bit more... effortless. Lesson learned.

New problem.

Where in the hell is the saves folder? I turned my Distant Worlds folder upside down looking for the damn thing. It's like a ninja.

In my Windows 7 OS, the path to the Saves folder is:

C:/Users/#name#/AppData/Roaming/CodeForceLimited/DistantWorlds/1.9.5.2

Hope that helps [8D]

%appdata%\Code Force Limited\Distant Worlds

Much easier [8D]

(Yes that is an actual address - Just copy it into your address bar or type it in manually and Windows finds the roaming appdata folder for you)
