Stuck at start screen

I'm new to DW Universe. I purchased and launched the game through Steam. On the start screen after clicking on a menu item the sub-menu appears at the lower lefty corner with part of the menu off the screen. I can not move the menu boxes with a mouse or any key. I therefore can only run with a few setting changed. I'm on windows 8.1 with a 1920 x 1200 monitor.

Hi taq

Could you please try disabling display scaling for Distant Worlds.

To do this follow these steps:
- go to the root DW game folder. For Steam this is probably C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Distant Worlds Universe\
- right-click DistantWorlds.exe and select Properties
- go to the Compatibility tab
- check 'Disable display scaling on high DPI settings'
- click OK

Restart DW and see how that works

Ok -I tried that and I now can access the menus properly. The font now are very small and I still can't move the menu boxes with the mouse. Thanks for the quick response!
