Turn 90, 4th march 1943

Poltava

Russians have reached my defensive line. Losses are heavy when units are not well entrenched, especially with 90 enginer value!!!

Krivoi Rog

Still sacrifying italian units.... I know it's gamey but they are going home within a few months... 2nd SS PzK strenghens the defence.

Turn 93, 25th march 1943

Last turn before mud. Osahwott is a very cautious defender and attacker. As stated in his AAR, I think he should have put more pressure in the South. The front on the Lower Dniepr was not far to collapse and I had to send there 2 Pzk + II PzSS K + several Inf divs to close the hole. But of course it's easier to say than to do.

The Italians and the Rumanians were sacrified to earn time.

Summer 1943 will be much harder, SHC will get MP's and progressively close the morale gap.

I will use all natural defences available (Dniepr, Dvina, Pripyat) and as anyone can notice, there is almost nothing to stop the russians in Krivoi Rog area.. . except my best units

At the moment, I make some local counerattacks

Center

Oshawott always let a path for his units not to be routed. at this time I placed a Pzd on this hex!

South

2 successfull counerattacks

Given how grim it all looked in the winter offensive, I reckon you've done a great job defensively since then. You've been effective in stalling him and at least giving yourself some space to play with in 1943.

Thanks. I try to avoid any encirclement and spare my Manpower/morale.

But not sure that defending successfully as GHC during winter 1942/1943 should be considered as exceptional.

I see the growing wave of russian army coming and my ditch will crack during this summer or more surely during winter 1943/1944.

I still believe that this game will end summer 1944.

Turn 101, 20th may 1943

Summer will be long... First overview of the Russian power.

Pskov

Units in clear terrain won't be able to resist. Oshawott clears the surroundings of Pskov

Center

Oshawott methodically destroys my first line of defence. A held can be get in light woods with a full Pzd as reserve

South

Idem, clearing the first line.

Turn 103, 3rd june 1943

Focus ont the 3 hot spots

Pskov

Defences west of Pskov are crushed, I will retreat South. 5000+ art are now something usual

Gomel

SHC clears a corridor

South

I was short of AP and was unable to optimize my stacks (-36%). It will be done next turn. See the ridiculous 4903 art for russians

Oshawatt really does like to bring the big guns (& lots of them) doesn't he?

Looking at that sequence, even your level 2/3 forts are just getting crushed (realise its a bit hard to judge if that was pre combat or a result of you retreating) which is going to leave you very exposed. Fear you are in for a tough summer (but then you know that already )

also looks like his partisans carry on being incredibly active

Oshawott has a fine appreciation for the God of War. I approve. This appreciation isn't as common as it should be, either.

I'm actually a little surprised by this, because the partisans don't have a really large amount of territory anymore in which to work. I don't know how many units Stef has specifically designated for anti-partisan operations; maybe he needs every last man against the almighty Red Army that Oshawott has created.

In fact most of my security divs were still in cities but strongly depleted. German Sec Divs had between 2000/3000 men each. So they were ineffective.

Rumanian Sec Divs are totally depleted (<1000men) and I use cavalry to hunt down partisans in the South.

Hungarian were mostly transformed in light divisions and used to dig in.

I still have the italian security div which is working fine but not for a long time!

I refited the german ones on turn 106 (we are now finishing turn 107). We will see if it changes the number of partisans

And with the momentum of russian advance, I won't need any security div at the end of 1943!

Turn 104, 10th june 1943

Last turn of alternance clear/mud

Pskov

Oshawott begins to hammer my defences South of Pskov. I don't like all these arts!

Center

Clearing the eastern bank of the Dniepr. He wants to prevent my summer offensive

South

Not a cakewalk for russians anymore, but still stacking problems (both sides). Screens are before my counterattacks...

Hi all,

Flav, who is this God of War? I'll probably get my head taken off for this, but!!!, what is all this attack, then withdraw, over and over? Sure I known it is very clever way to limit counter attacks, but really, did this kind of behavior happen on the East front. Hmm, pls no offense intended.

It's one of the limit of this game but if you don't do this you are too much exposed to counterattacks. I have really big stacks in this area ready to bite!

Jesus Christ. Near 13k guns. What is that, like 6 rifle corps and 9 rocket arty divisions?

8 rifle corps, 1 cav corps and 9 rocket artillery divisions. But in about 25 turns they will upgrade and the numbers will go down.

Turn 105, 17th june 1943

Ciao Italia, arriverci Roma

Center

I thought that Oshawott would have continued straight through the Dniepr and the clear hexes. I was wrong!

Attrition war is on, Oshawott allowed me some successfull attacks

He has gone a long way from his "friendly handshakes" that's for sure. Half a million men and 13K guns is just beyond my comprehension for one battle.

Turn 106, 24th june 1943

New summer, new black perpectives...

Let's have a full review of the situation

North

After leaving Pskov, Oshawott is already hitting hard my second line of defence. I will try to earn some time before retreating behind the Dvina. I don't like these mech units on the left side of my front

Smolensk

Hammering at the door! I'm weak in this sector as I didn't think it would be his main target

Center

End of the clearing of the eastern bank of the Dniepr

Kiev

A seldom defensive success
