Question for computer experts

Post by Rosseau »

Mirrored my XP system on external drive last summer. Good move, as XP died. Installed Win7 and kept old files on primary drive, too. Of course, every Matrix game (except Birth of Rome) on External drive and reg drive would not boot, as the protection scheme did not recognize the original install, I suppose. Back up those exe's!

New Tiller games just required a re-serial. Paradox and HPS games booted like nothing ever happened. Steam required reinstall for Win7.

The Question (finally) - When I am playing a game off my XP-mirrored external drive, is my computer using XP or Win7?

Who cares, I guess. But my usual computer guy could not answer this.

DO yoo have a choice on Boot to choose which Operating System to use?

I used to dual boot Win7 and XP but the setup for it was a bit messy at the time.

Cheers

Jev

Thanks for the answers. All is good, and I'm afraid/no reason now to boot XP from external drive as Win7 seems pretty compatible with most games.

should have tried windows 8.1 as that works just the same as win 7 for older games, not had a single issue so far and have been using it since alpha and beta's came out and still use dos as well tbh for really old games
