Had a chance to visit the BB Missouri and Pacific Aviation Museum on Ford Island and thought I'd share some pics. I'd visited the Arizona Memorial before, but never had a chance to visit the sites on Ford Island itself. Didn't get to the Bowfin though - next time!

First pic is the Arizona Memorial from the BB Missouri bridge deck

Surrender Plaque. They have the surrender docs as well, but they aren't the originals - they're kept in DC

Outside the Aviation Museum is this B17E. Damaged over Rabaul in Feb 42, pilot crashed landed in a swamp in New Guinea, and was recovered and brought to the museum

Love this mural showing the first VAL diving on Ford Is. Everything on the west side of Ford now is military housing areas - nice. The rest seems pretty much unchanged. What surprised me was the size of Ford Is - always thought it was much smaller for some reason. Also what struck me was the channels surrounding Ford are really narrow - amazing that the Japanese could - and did - conduct torpedo attacks. No wonder the US thought PH was secure

Good comparison of the 3 major anti ship weapons used - standard VAL dropped bomb, torpedo and the BB warhead bomb that destroyed the Arizona
