Hi All,

I'm very interested in purchasing Distant Worlds and all expansions, but I'd first like to ask if anyone is running on a laptop similar to mine?

It's a Gateway NV 53, here are some relevant specs:

• AMD Athlon™ II Dual-Core(2.0 GHz)
• Dual-channel DDR2 SDRAM support
• 4 GB of DDR2 667/800 MHz
• 15.6" WXGA TFT LCD display panel
• 1366×768 resolution
• VGA memory: shared or 512 MB
Windows 7

I've looked at the requirements, and it appears to me that I'll be ok. But, with an $85 price tag and no demo to try, I just want to be sure it'll run. Thank You!

Not a lot of memory, Main or Video, so things might be a little lagging in larger games and battles.
Windows 7 + Shared Video should be reserving about 2GB, leaving only 2 for DW.

But overall I would think you CAN run it, but be aware you may need to drop settings or adjust games to limits you are comfortable with.

nb: I use a desktop with 4GB of video memory and 16GB system, so may not be the best to answer this.

With "Shadows", 2,4 Ghz, 2 GB Ram, 1 GB Graphic Card, XP or Win7 I can hardly play for an hour before having a CTD because RAM is missing. Even very small maps & barely anything of everything. (It wasn't that bad with the first patches). OTH "Legends" works fine even with large maps.

So IMO the *recommended* system specs for "Shadows" are a bit of an understatement.

Edit:
"RECOMMENDED
OS: Windows XP SP2, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8
CPU: Dual Core CPU @2.0 GHz
RAM: 2Gb RAM
Video/Graphics: minimum 1024 x 768 resolution, 32 bit"

To OP:

My laptop is very similar in stats, in fact it's a little worse than yours (about a 5-6 year old Dell), and the game runs fine.

I did turn the graphics options down, and I haven't played on a map larger than 700 stars and 10x10 grid. I have some choppy framerate when zooming in and out from Galaxy to system view, and in -ONE- game that I took to around 60-70 years, when there were probably a thousand or more ships flitting to and fro, finally noticed some slowdown.

It also doesn't help that I'm playing this on a 47" Flatscreen, either. I've noticed that -any- game I play with the regular laptop screen tends to run better overall.

Thanks for the responses guys.

I know for sure I can run it on my desktop, but it's nice to know I can also play it on the couch, in bed, on the crapper etc.

Now that is true gamer dedication or maybe obsession or maybe...
