Can someone explain how the number for the Engineers is calculated?

It is not any complex calculation... just a simple count.

If you add the "engineers" units on each LCU, you will get the same result

IIRC, the number is a reflection of the number of engineer squads that are present at the base. This is the total number of squads present in all the units of the base, including combat units and engineer units. Engineering vehicles are also counted up to present a total. I BELIEVE, but can't remember if it is completely correct but one vehicle is equal to either 5 or 6 squads in relation to building power. Again not sure of the equation, but if you have 5 vehicles it would therefore be about 30 or 36 squads.... what ever the number is, vehicles are important for quick building or rebuilding. Hal
