from The Hill:

"Rep. Randy Forbes (R-Va.) on Wednesday took aim at the Navy's decision to change the way it counts ships, chalking up the revision to adding 'paper ships' to the fleet.

"Forbes, chairman of the House Armed Services Seapower subcommittee, said change in ship counting was an accounting gimmick that is masking the Navy’s inability to meet the needs of combatant commanders.

"'They’re paper ships,' Forbes said at a hearing on the Navy budget. 'A change in counting will not help meet a single one of those requirements of the combatant commanders.'

"Navy Secretary Ray Mabus last week informed Congress that it was changing its ship counting methodology to allow the counting of ships routinely requested by commanders ..."

This administration is more focused on getting peoples internets and cell phones. It's disgusting the way they've turned their back on the American taxpayer.

I'm relatively new here, so it's good to know that "political" posts are frowned upon.

Way too many military/history-themed message boards are ruined by the usual right wing/conservative talking points.

So conservative talking points have exactly what to do with an "accounting gimmick" to count ships?

If only the US Navy used the WitP method of counting ships, then all bases could spontaneously spawn a dozen PT boats to keep the numbers up!

I don't see that this is a right or left wing talking point. Seems pretty clear that they've moved the goal posts to reach a particular number, which is an accounting gimmick whoever does it.

However, it is a political thread. Anything that starts by quoting a politician of one party commenting on the policies of the day is going to be locked. Please remember that political discussions are against the forum rules - there are plenty of places on the internet to discuss political stuff, whereas we are here to discuss our shared interests in strategy and war games.

Regards,

- Erik
