Game crashes when creating galaxy - DW_CrashDump included

Distant Worlds - Crash Dump - 1.9.0.0

--- COMPLETE ---

As title says. I can run it, choose game type or quick start, then it breaks and locks. It looks like a stall. All the time.
Have all .net framework installed (1, 1.1, 2.0, 3.5, 4.0).

There is no such thing as a historically accurate strategy game. Every game stops being historically accurate from the very first move player do. First unit that moves ahistorically, first battle with non-historical results, mean we ride in unknown.

I would try reinstalling the game, as this seems like a weird error. There also appear to be little useful info in that crash report. And crashing at galaxy creation is not normal.

Make sure you have media player installed, but not having so should crash the game at startup.
Say "yes" to every direct x, xna, or other check DW wants to run at install.

All right. Tested. Reinstalled. Game works normal up to Distant Worlds Shadows expansion. I can play orginal game plus earlier expansions without errors.
So what now?

Look at this thread:

http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=3330955&mpage=1&#3332445

Short summary: Patch the game. Try setting regional settings to English.

Hi, thanks. It works now.

What I did:
1. installed media player 11 - so the music plays now
2. enabled Windows Management Instrumentation (but did not test if it wasn' enabled earlier)
3. installed DistantWorldsShadows-Update19013 - and galaxy creates without error

I'm glad to have it running. Thanks again.

PS: My system is Win XP SP 2.
