Do I need to go send some big ship with fuel to make sure these guys can be safely brought through the Panama Canal and deployed somewhere more useful?

Nope, they can move from EC to Panama under own power without escort. From Panama they might need escort depending on where you send them. To the WC they can go alone though.

They can also go to Cape town, then to Diego Garcia and onwards to Columbo and into the Indian Ocean.

It's important for every Allied player to understand that off-map movement does not consume fuel, does not accrue damage, and can be done at Full speed without any effects such as fuel depletion or damage accrual. So, for example, small ships like xAKLs can do runs between EC and CT by themselves without fuel worries. Back and forth for years with no need to repair. This ability is built into the design. It's one advantage the Allies have right away when the game starts, when they have few others. It lets supplies and fuel get to the front quickly and safely, at least for a large part of the trip.

Playing the Allies one should do every bit of business possible off-map. It saves time, escorts, damage, fuel, and VPs.

You're both welcome.

One caveat I didn't mention. IF a TF leaves an off-map base for another off-map base, and ANY ship is already at (red) 0 fuel, then it will move at (implied) one hex a turn and take forever to get to the destination. Nothing will sink, but it can be three months going CT to EC. Or more. I learned this the hard way with a Really Big TF.

Also, be careful if the TF is leaving from off-map to go on-map. It WILL use fuel once it's on map, and ships WILL sink if they run out and accrue too much damage as a result.

Thanks man!

I definitely didn't worry about escorts and stuff (I figured they were immune from attacks). I think there are some bigger ships coming into Balboa soon, so I may have them bring the SCs to Pearl, although east coast Australia could *really* use them.

Cheers!
