Playable on a laptop ??

Post by schascha »

Certainely a stupid question. Because some people use two large monitors.

But I want to be sure.

I play on a laptop 15.6" screen and it works just fine - you can easily play on a 13" screen I think - just use an appropriate zoom level (I use level 4 and flyout), so you can have a decent potion of the map shown. If you have some experience with WiF you will be able to recognize the units even with fairly low zoom level, especially if you turn on the option to remove the name of the unit and show the numbers enlarged.

So no problem, I would say :)

quote from "whatsnew.pdf" included in the install files:

"For monitors with only the minimum required height (768 pixels), the Windows Task Bar needs to be Hidden. Otherwise the Task Bar covers the bottom of the screen and the game is unplayable."

Once I hid the taskbar it was workable on my laptop.

I would love more screen real estate, but it is playable. It'll take you a while to figure out exactly what you want where.

I happen to really like ctrl-h to show units in the hex all the time rather than use the flyouts and I've had to spend some time moving things around to make it all work.

I've played and tested extensively with a 15" laptop running 1280x800.

At a sensible zoom rate its fine.

I've had it installed on a netbook but its not very playable, understandably!

That's fine. The minimums are 1024 by 768. Here are a couple pages from the Players Manual that are appropriate.

I frequently play on an 11" touch-screen tablet with 1920 x 1080 resolution; even at zoom level 3, the counters are still recognizable although 4+ is certainly better.
