So I've been at war with the Shakturi for decades now. One of their major frontier colonies was vulnerable, so I took advantage and attacked. However, it had a planetary shield so I was forced to invade and take over. This turned the tide of the war, though it will still last decades due to the Shakturi's Fortress Europe-style home systems.

Unfortunately since this conquered colony is so far away, my economic logistics is getting stretched thin. The private sector had to divert freighters there and the travel time is just insane, so the rest of my colonies now have resources just barely trickling in (despite plentiful mining stations).

I'm sure my economy will recover once the private sector adapts to the situation, but that might take a very long time. I've also had to reorganize my fleets into defensive positions, so the war effort is basically at a standstill.

I'm guessing some of you have run into this problem before. What would you recommend? I was hoping I could give the colony to a more suitable friendly empire, but it doesn't look like that's an option.

I recommend that you ignore the colony more or less.
You can assign a defence fleet to protect the planet if you got a refuel point close by, but when the next refuel point is at your empire you should overthink that.

Just pickup your troops and invade other colonies around, maybe you got one with more resources and can build a spaceport there, at the spaceport the private sector can build ship to spread the resources.
Order some constr. ship from your homeplanet to build some mining station there, or capture station instead to destroy them.

Best would be to conquer the homeplanet of the shakturi and end the war.

When it comes to the Shakturi, a policy of planetary bombardment is effective as well...don't worry about taking a reputation hit, the Shakturi are so vile no one will care.

Bombardment doesn't work when the planet has a shield

Yeah that's been my strategy so far, but apparently they've been around long enough and helped their allies enough that they now have Satisfactory reputation. I wish I had noticed that before I bombarded their newest colony. I'm now Dubious

What are the freighters doing? Are they transfering resources to the colony, or transfering them away? Usually they transfer resources away if it had a starport before you invaded it. Just build the same starport it had before.

BTW economic collapse is a bit of a misnomer.

Yes, in those cases invading is your only choice. In those cases I use a lot of troops. Bombard when possible, invade when necessary. Extermination policy on Shakturi planets isn't a bad idea either.

You could gift the planet to an ally? Can you give planets as gifts? (I didn't really check right now)

And next time, start your game on a smaller map. The AI doesn't handle distance gracefully.

You can only trade/give colonies in certain situations. Unlike other games, the planet actually has to be disputed to be able to trade/give it away. An example of this becoming available would be if you and a MDP ally both go to war against a third empire, and both manage to capture planets in the same system. In this case, which ever of you has the larger influence (more populated planet) in that system may be able to trade to get it. The empire with the least influential planet in the system only has the option to trade it away to the larger influence empire.

I'm quite convinced that this occured because the planet formerly had a spaceport, but now that you conquered it, the spaceport was removed/destroyed. The best solution is to rebuild it. Spaceports control the allocation of resource storing.
