I'm having trouble this happening. Until now I was under the impression that all that was needed for escorting basically to be happening was, that the fighters were located nearer the eventual target of the bombers than the originating base of the bombers. I do no really see this happening. I really need my Betties to have some escorts :(..

NOW the manual says in 7.2.1.11 that there should be a target set also for the fighters:

"In addition, a unit may escort attacks originating at another base/ship if the escorting unit has
a Target that matches the target being attacked, and the escorting fighter is closer to the target
than the aircraft being escorted. Occasionally this can occur even if no priority target is set for
the escorting unit."

Now in a couple of previous thread there was a large consensus that no target should be set for escorts because it could interfere with other stuff happening. Obviously I would not set one if wishing escorts to company a naval attack from another base - according to the manual this happening would be "occasional", but in no case unrealistic IRL (maybe it was really hard?). But if wishing to get escorts on a land attack or a naval attack on a base hex, should that hex be set as the target of the nearer escorting fighters?

Attack on land base - yes, naval attack - no.

What about a possible naval attack on an base hex :D? Target for escorts?

No. It would be guesswork, and if the naval targets move - or you attack a different naval target than the intended one - you get caught with your pants down.

I would and am in any case, because I'm not getting the escorts without setting targets even though they are a few hexes away from the targets (Betties are coming from 10-17 hexes away) :/..

Set you fighters on LRCAP over the desired target. This works better and they do not suffer the horrible penalties that close escorting fighters do.

Thanks for the idea! I already set them on sweep (at least takes some of the defense away and might even show up escorting) for the turn and am waiting for the results. I will try LRCAP next!
