Reading the comments on the Pocket Tactics interview with JD and Ian, and it becomes I guess plenty obvious my next tech doodad will be something running iOS whether I hate Apple or not.
When they mention the portion of sales that came from just 3 exploratory games put out on the iOS through the tablet scene...... the guys can rant all they want about the power of the PC and the dominance of the keyboard equipped computer be it laptop or not all they want.
Slitherine Group has an incredible array of titles, and a lot of them are VERY seriously hard core wargames. Developers with die hard followers and very successful well established titles that have several expansions, and yet, 3 games, and they mentioned they are still learning, and the titles that did that 25% are old titles that had some issues adapting to the new touch screen environment, and yet they were very successful in the one place a business requires.... they need to produce income.
One can only ponder, what will happen when Slitherine Group gets those flood gates really open with titles like Battle Academy 2 and other titles that won't be dragging around the 90s buried deep in their design?
When 2-3 iOS titles can keep pace with 20 years worth of products spanning several developers all producing very involved supposedly superior products, I think it will be time to stop laughing at how a tablet isn't serious wargaming. Serious wargaming people, is not always about taking several months to play a game, it can also be about becoming seriously successful selling wargames to seriously large volumes of customers.
I have said it for a long time. Wargaming will eventually need to replace the older gamers, and just like avoiding your homework till the last day, you don't want to be thinking of doing it at the last moment.
Part of the problem with tablets and gaming, is getting people to make seriously worthy games for it.
People WILL be taking notice of Slitherine Group's successes with selling good games for the tablet even when they ask for more than 1.99.
I suspect there will be a time, when other game producers react with 'hmm I'd like a piece of that action too'.

I have too many too complicated wargames, and not enough sufficiently interested non wargamer friends.
