it be a while that bug is in the game, and still not be fix, race not using they tech bc auto-design use lasted tech.

some idea for fix it:

1) block path in the same branch so only the race tech can be gain like dmg control, ikkuro can only research they line.

2) modification of design template that race tech have a other component name, ikkuro repairbot will no more be damage unit but call repairbot.

3)remove race tech, give them a bonus to the kind of component, like shakur gain bonus dmg for torpedo, or ackdarian gain energy reduction on engine use.

This is an very old design issue.
Racial tech is mosttime lower tech then others. Thats why the AI don't use racial tech.

Best example Ikkuro's Repair bot allways get replaced by the 40% Damaged Control Modul when you use the auto. design upgrade.

We told this the Devs allready for Legends but it realy never got better.

The AI NEED to be forced to research the racial tech only, and not alternate path's for the similar tech.
Racial Tech need advance use at the Auto. ship design and not an alternate.

Agreed.We are told they improved A.I research but basic issues like this remain.

It shouldn't be that difficult to make the AI always favour unique techs. Even aside from that, the tech choices both in research and use really need a lot of tweaking in the AI.
