Any others around?

I know this is an old controversial topic on this forum, but I don't understand why Stardrive gets so many reviews, while Distant Worlds gets so few.

Perhaps it is because the Stardrive publishers spend their efforts on advertising rather than developing their game?

Oh sorry, what I meant to say is that I applaud Matrix for putting their efforts into producing/improving an excellent game. Strangely enough I think it will pay them financial dividends given sufficient time.

I bought Distant Worlds (with Shakturi & Legends) in August last year, then promptly shelved it, partly because of the learning curve, partly font sizes. At the end of April this year, I bought StarDrive, and after playing that game for a few days I was driven to retry Distant Worlds, which I've been playing ever since. In fact, I can honestly say I haven't been more interested in a computer game in over a decade.

Yeah I'm sure DW will still be worth playing long after Stardrive is no more than a dusty memory.. Actually the main reason I never ended up purchasing Stardrive is that the aliens look so weird, why would an alien race look exactly like a hyena? why would a plant creature have a face a human can easily identify with? What's with the samurai bears?

The races in DW are much more sci-fi, and for the most part they don't identify as 'earth creatures in space' even if a few do look they belong to their respective species I don't see a Shandar and say oh look an iguana in space, I see a reptilian alien.
