It is sad to see that a lot of the new games coming to the IPAD from Slitherine/Matrix are full of In App Purchases. This equates to dumbing down a war game by allowing real money to buy your way to a win. I am saddened with the direction as of late. The whole thing about us wargamers is we hate buying wins and want to earn them. I enjoyed Battle Academy and had no problem with its high price vs almost any other app due to it being a full game and no more money needing to be spent to get the full experience. I also have no problem paying for more content(missions, battles and campaigns), however I draw a line to this arcade money grab (In App Purchase) approach . I am afraid that the IPAD version of Panzer Corps will turn into a IAP buy a Maus/King Tiger Tank fiasco. I hope my fellow wargamers here can join me in this and draw a line to keep real war games available for us!!!

Which apps have this? As you say, Battle Academy just has extra campaigns to buy...

I wouldn't worry to much about Panzer Corps for ipad it's been pushed back 3 times now and are now projecting fall....and honestly I'm sure it will be Christmas or after before we see this game. It's amazing that how one guy can make a remake of panzer general called Ipanzer 1942 and he keeps updating and even put out a lite version. I will admit it was buggy at first but the updates made this game really enjoyable.

Over on Pocket Tactics they poke fun of Panzer Corps being pushed back (yet again) and he states that Slitherines next game will have in app purchases to make your army better. Example "bag of gold" might cost 3.99. I hate these games! They are not based on skill but rather how much you care to spend.

I'm not sure I follow. In-app purchases are how we can sell the expansions on the iOS platforms. It's not how you buy your way to victory, but it's how you get more content, which you say you have no problem with. That will be no different with Panzer Corps. In other words, for the PC we can add an expansion to our store, for iOS it has to be an in-app purchase.

When you say "a lot of the new games" we're releasing do things differently, which ones are you talking about?

I haven't tried the iOS version of GBM, but it's very different from most of our other wargames in that it has a RPG/unit development element to it and may be suited to that model. The vast majority of our games do not fit that model and there are no plans as far as I know for any "pay to win" changes to our games.

Regards,

- Erik

Rogo,

You've received direct replies from both Iain and me stating that Panzer Corps for iPad is very much real and very much a priority here. It will be out this year. Please stop posting rumors.

Regards,

- Erik

I have to say, I'd rather be made fun of for spending extra time on a release than be made fun of for releasing a buggy unfinished release. A date is just a date, what folks really remember after release is how much they actually enjoyed the game. That said, Panzer Corps for the iPad is real and it's coming.

Regards,

- Erik

I am sometimes called doubting Thomas . Like him I must first see before I believe. While I have no doubt it will be an outstanding game.

Great Battles Medieval is the same as on PC where you cannot buy gold. The gold purchase was added because we didn't want to dumb the game down and make it easiest but didn't want to rule out the wider market, which this game could appeal to. It is no indication of anything other than that.

Rogo there is a version of Panzer Corps running on iPad which I tweeted recently or are you saying I am lying?

Did I ever say you were lying? No. I would hope at this juncture that there would be some form of panzer corps being tested on an iPad . And since we often agree to disagree on some issues my name is Rodney. Mr. McNeil.

Rogo would you rather they release a stable game or a buggy mess? I along with many others want the game to come out but let's be honest despite the bad press of pushing the game back it's better than them doing the AAA studio thing and releasing something that's not ready yet just to get it out.

When slitherine first announced panzer corps for the iPad last year (seems like a distant memory yes it's been that long) I was excited. Then ipanzer came out is now in v. 3.02 and is enjoyable for those who don't know this game it is a remake of the original Panzer general. It was not put out by a large web based war gaming company with HQ's in two countries. It was made by one guy in his spare time no less. I did read that slitherine did take a break from PC to release legion for the iPad . Just makes me frustrated that's all! When I see that they are releasing games to the iPad after they have announced panzer corps and in doing this PC keeps getting pushed back. I do realize that when released PC will blow BA out of the water and they want to get it right... Yes I understand all of that. I guess I will feel this way each new game slitherine comes out for the iPad that is not PC until its released.

As already discussed numerous times the amount of work to port was greater than expected due to the windows specific implementation. We allocated our technical director to help out and he has been on it full time for around 4 months to speed things up. Spreading false rumours can hurt us so we will not permit it. Asking if it is on track is fine. Implying it is vapourware is not. This thread is about GBM so please keep it on topic or it will be locked.

I meant to say there is no need to buy Gold. You can if you want but it is balanced as per PC but you can if you want. I doubt many will but we need to offer these options as they are becoming standard. We are not making any freemium games if that is the concern.

How did I spread false rumors? I never once implied or even used the word "vapourware" just questioned why this game has been pushed back so many times. Now for this new game are you trying to say that you can win without buying gold? If that's the case I will give it a try. I'm glad to see that Game Center isn't mentioned so no multi player which is fine with me.

One thing I forgot to mention is that the Gold is non consumable and you can only purchase once.

E.g. If you buy 1000 gold, every new game you start, you will have an additional 1000 gold. The same goes for 5000 gold. They are basically cheats that make the game a lot easier for people who are having trouble.
