CTD while editing a masterfile - 4/29/2013 5:42:06 AM

I had a CTD while I was working on a masterfile based on the original "New Dawn" 2.14 masterfile under Windwos 7. I've been reworking the graphics I made almost two years ago, and restructured the masterfile from scratch. Basically, I deleted all terrains and started over. I did this because I switched to four seasons and used interior graphics for cities, much like DC, and the original structure caused problems. I added a few terrains for the seasons, as well as two new desert terrains. In order to make things look better I also used borders to make the transitions between seasons for mountains look good, as well as for forests. In the end, I had 72 terrains (starting from 0) with twelve of them being borders. The problem started when I had decided that I also was going to add some units, and made some NATO counters, and was replacing the counters. About halfway into the process I got a CTD and was never able to complete the change. I am afraid that you are going to say that the problem is lack of memory. When I hit "del" I get the measurements of 51985 KB for the GUI and 118996 KB for Bitmapstore. As I change the counters, Bitmapstore increases slightly (~ 10 KB) for each counter. Before I tried this, I was able to generate many maps with no problems. I also checked that the terrains changed with time as I planned with seasons by running a game without actually playing it. I haven't yet played a real game with this particular masterfile, although I did with an earlier masterfile that had even more terrains, and it crashed after 20 turns (I don't have the error log for that one as I was caught by surprise).

The error I get generates the following message:

See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging

For example:

< jitDebugging="true" />

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

I am going to have to do a new small patch for ATG soon now. When I am back in office next week i'll get on it.

This bug should be related to a recent Windows7 update that changes the way Windows does memory management on some systems.

This workaround should fix this issue for now:
-Remove Windows Update KB2670838

That's good news. I can wait a week or so. I have been working on this for a year, so I don't need to hurry. I've started a new dawn game so I want to see if I have bugs before I go for the full masterfile.
