I have searched the manuals for this topic, and I found rather little. I played a random game and within a few minutes I got some music and a message that I lost (IE, AI was victorious). how did this happen so quickly. i know, hidden somewhere int he manuals and game well tell me this stuff. I did see under the strategic map that I had 4 VPs and AI had 19. Well, maybe it was bad luck. the random map started me out on a very small island and I didn't have much to work with. Perhaps a mirror map is better (or loop) because I started out at the edge of a map and at the extreme part of the screen. I most directions I couldn't move any further. in the stat screen the AI quickly out produced my by about 100 to 1, given my predicament. Is that why they got 19 VPs?

oh, and can someone tell me what the "use resource:check box is on map set up (new dawn). And also, is there a way to specify what nat'l for human and what Nat'l for AI? thank you

Victory points are usually awarded by the amount of cities that are controlled by each player. In a sense they are a measure of how much of the map you have conquered... there is a screen each time you open your turn, that will tell you how many victory points you have and how many are needed to win.

A capital is worth 4VP and a city 1VP. If you don't get a good starting location on your random map, don't play it. Just spin the wheel again until you get a map that looks like you have a good starting location.
