It appears that in this game, T31, I have not been getting full use of the Luftwaffe as I have almost 600 newer Level Bombers in the pool. I have been playing around with the doctrine settings but am having trouble seeing a the effects of the various levels.

I do not fly many bombing missions - and when I do, I generally concentrate everything in range on one or two attacks. Is that the problem? Should I always start each turn with a bunch of bombing missions?

Any suggestions on how to get them flying more?

I would love to be able to trade 500 of those bombers in on 1000 Pz IIIs. I know that they will get used.

you must keep in mind that aircrafts from different Luftflotte/Air army will not fly together.
you can try to make autochange for older bombers (Do17)
during blizzard a lot of air missions are reduced, this can allow for reserve filling
my last blizzard, i manage to recover moral for bombers by going/leaving reserve pool (a bit gamey)

40% required to fly seems awful high to me, but others are far better judges than me. (I use 10% btw)

Make sure GS is on.

I get all the bombing I want by doing selected hexes before doing any unit combat, and then allowing air support doing combats. Lower % required and rather high A/C counts for each sort of mission works, e.g., 30% required and 100 mission units/100 escort units.

BTW, could do the same, I think, if 60% required but 50 mission/50 escorts as once did. Just not sure if its the same.

Since the units must come from the same base for each activation, AFAIK, it is important to get fighters and mission units into the same base. Fighters only will make a base an "interception" base only (so I think.)

I disagree that moving units to reserve is gamey. Whenever morale drops to 50% or so of experience, I try to move them to reserve. Prevents them from flying and makes them available for allocation to a new location.

I have (maybe) a similar problem.
I am at turn 31 (Blizzard), and I have loads of bombers and fighters with have flown <30%, are 5-6 hexes from their target, yet I can't get them to do anything!! I get the "bomber unavailable or out of range" message. What could be the problem?

Air Doctrine settings below.

Also why are the Ground Attack and Airfield Attack settings frozen?
