dive bombers assumed... meaning a plane that can either glide or dive bomb

is there an in-game reason to use it?

for what I have read, glide bombing was a not highly regarded, and it was used only used by novice dive bomber pilots (who didn't master yet the dive bombing technique)

Historically, strain to airframe was less.

Finnish Ju-88 pilots used glide bombing after it was discovered that airframes were getting damaged in dives and replacements hard to come by.

In the summer of 1943, the Finns noted stress damage on the wings. This had occurred when the aircraft were used in dive bombing. Restrictions followed: the dive brakes were removed and it was only allowed to dive at a 45-degree angle (compared to 60-80 degrees previously). In this way, they tried to spare the aircraft from unnecessary wear.

But in game terms...it depends.

Have to remember that you cannot dive bomb at low altitude...unless kamikaze. It's mainly for low-level attacks, which are decently accurate.

Speaking of which, what is the altitude for Glide Bombing? I've done a search in the forum and came up with a guess at below 10K for a dive bomber (not 10K but BELOW?)... is a Dive Bomber the only a/c that can glide bomb? If there are others, what type??? What is the LOWER limit in terms of altitude? In relation to dive bombing, I know it is 10K to 15K but does this mean that at 15K the a/c will use dive bombing OR that AT 15K and on up it will be level (thus in effect from 10K to 14,999)? I would hate to loose out on the accuracy of dive bombing on a technicality! Thanks in advance. Hal

15K is still divebombing. I used to set my SBDs to 15k all the time, until I found out that strike escorts fly 2K over the strike (right?), so now I set them to 13k to avoid the maneuverability penalty for the Wildcats at 17k...

There is no mvr penalty for the Wildcat above 15k, thats a very old urban legend.

Zero performance drops a slight bit though (low 30something to 27 IIRC)

Herp, yes - that's what I actually meant ;). I play both sides way too often. I set my Vals to 13k so that my Zeroes can operate at 15k, while as the USN I set my Dauntlesses to 15k - and they still divebomb.
