May 12, 1942 Palembang Wavell yawned briefly before returning his attention to the briefing. He knew all this, Singapore still held all the while inflicting tremendous losses on the Japanese attackers. Supplies were once again getting low and the British navy refused any more supply runs. It was only a matter of time for the doomed garrison. In Burma, Prome was besieged and the Japanese ruled the skies. One enemy cruiser squadron was making runs along the coastline and the Admiralty sortied a heavy surface group to stop them. The carriers were down south, helping Australia and were no help to Wavell and Singapore. Java had been cut in two, but strong Dutch units held out in Soerabaja and Batavia. The Dutch air force still continued to fly, and every now and then damaged some Japanese ships. Overall, for Wavell, this was a relatively quiet time.
