Playing Japan I have noticed that even after poor land results (like 1:2 against); I can still "destroy" more devices than the allies;

in other words, I can have 5,000 casualties vs 2,000 on the allies, but of those 5,000 maybe lets say 15% to 25% are "destroyed" while for the allies they might be in the 50% destroyed range

Is this driven by the high experience of my troops compared to the Allies encoutered so far? morale, or leadership maybe?
Fatigue certainly is contributing the least, because most of those assaults I was definitively the one with the higher fatigue (attacked after marching, while the Allies were sitting there).

If I had to bet, it is probably a mix of many factors, with experience being the main contributor; that will also be consistent with how air combat works (low experience pilot dies quite a lot faster than experienced ones)

I think supply is a big part of it as well. And fatigue/disruption.

A device/squad/unit hit once becomes disabled, hit a second time while disabled becomes destroyed. If you're in the early stages of the war (and winning) as you grind your opponent down you will generate more destroyed devices.

The base values used are the anti armor/anti soft values - the firepower - of the firing squads vs. the def/armor alue of the defending squad.

This is modified b a lot of different variables, like forts, terrain, supply, fatigue, exp, weather, commander land skill,...
The outcome of the combat rolls decide whether a squad is hit, and damaged or destroyed.

It is important to know that AV and firepower are only related to earch other as both increase with number of guns. There the relation ends.
A 300 AV US Div in '44 has seriousely more firepower than the same division in '42.

Itdepends: you don't need to damage a device first to destroy it. You are maybe relating to this: if more than 50% of the devices in a unit
are damaged, there is a random chance they will be destroyed without combat at turns end.

Hope that helps.

LoBaron is right. I get lots of destroyed units on the FIRST encounter! And right now seem to get a LOT more than the Japanese do on those encounters (I'm playing the Allies and it is just into Feb '42). So having to be "disrupted" or "damaged" first doesn't seem to be a prerequisite. Hal

Firepower surely must be an important factor; but my observations happenes in the early war and I don't think Japan's firepower is significant better than the Allies (except in China)

Early war the average japanese firepower is better, but only by small margin.

This is why in your case the different loss figures are more influenced by the far higher exp and
commander quality of the japanese units.
