Redeployment of airborne forces - a question.

Post by Sensei.Tokugawa »

If I happen to have an airborne subunit on an airfiled, is it able to be transported by air to another friendly airport using the air transport capacity or is it doable only by means of strategic transfer?

If I remember correctly both, xou will need enough transporters to fly your units to the destination hex.
Using strat transfer will need enough points from your HQ.
Using transporter planes will also use your oil reserves, so keep an eye on your oil stats.

Yeah both ways. If you use the airdop option the range is not too big, so they hop from airfield A to airfield B. If you use the Strategic Transfer option you can either use the railroad capacity (cheapest costs no oil) from a HQ or the one capacity that is given by trucks and halftracks... that one does cost a lot oil though but any hex can be reached with it... that is *if* you have the oil and transfer capacity. Strategic transferring infantry is not that expensive, but try to transfer some heavy tanks ... [:D]

I understand, I saw the air transport button glowing as available, but I am thus assuming that there is no difference then between the actual air drop and air transport. In TOAW III, if there is an air trasnport capacity rendered by the transport planes available in range, the airport needs to be in friendly territory or occupied by the friendly ground forces prior to the delivery of airportable elements - otherwise it is deemed a combat jump and the airborne units participating are subject to the likelihood of taking losses in manpower and equipment even if there is no OpFor on the ground in the targeted location.

After selecting airtransport and selecting a unit to be transported the game will ask you (if a choice available) if you want to air transport or paradrop the unit. Air transport has double the range.

Regular (non-paratrooper) infantry can be air-transported as well.
