Status: offline 		For you non native English speakers (I know there's a lot of you on this site), this is a double entendre ('dual meaning') that is representative of the crude humor of war.

The expression "Holding my own" in English parlance means 'getting by' or 'doing OK'. Of course, the other interpretation means 'to grasp and handle / hold my own...', as the art is clearly indicating here.

Dark / crude humor for the dark early days of the war.

Dallas Clinger, I think. P40 Warhawk Aces of the CBI cites P-40E-1 41-36402 / "White 38" as being the plane from 16th FS/23rd FG in Kweilin, China, Autumn 1942.

If you do a Google search on "Holdin' my own P40" you'll see a restored 2008 P40 with the tail markings and several models of this aircraft as well.

The Pacific War Museum had a number of Tex Hill's other memorabilia from the war though:

In the photo with the pilot there is a bit but it seems to have received a few more holes after the photo was taken.
