From the AAR between MT and Pelton, I've understood that SU were more efficients when attached to units rather to HQ.

Can someone precise me the level of difference in term of ability to attack entrenched units

Thanks

When attached to a combat unit they are sure to be committed in combat if that particular combat unit is involved. You don't need to roll the dice. The drawback ofcourse is that they will only fight with the "mother" division, not with the other corps/army units.

As far as I know it doesn't change the efficiency of the unit in attacking entrenched units.

Sappers/Engineers (and I believe to some degree artillery too) can reduce fortification levels.
If you have 6 or 9 rifle corps with 3 sappers attached apiece you stand a good chance of reducing or eliminating the man-made entrenchment value of a hex you are attacking. This should reduce the battle end CV calculation for the defender and give you a better chance of bouncing them out of the hex.

Terrain 'fortification' bonuses can't be negated, hence it is tougher to push a unit out of a swamp.

I think there is a limit of 3 SU to be used in combat if they are not attached to a combat unit (more in cities). Assigning "fighty" SU to units helps in increasing the strength of attack. Sapper and tank units have usually good CV (for a SU that is).
