I reported and posted that multiple stacked LCUs will not combine.

This refers to an LCU with several parts. If two or more of these need to combine
before joining the top level parent,

and if you click on show the components of the parent

an error message is generated in the right column

with the words

"no parent"

This seems to clearly say there is a problem with the combination.
And indeed there is - you may not "recombine unit" because the option is not active.

However, if you go to one of the sub sub units (both subs intentional)
and say "recombine unit" (assuming they are in the same place and have the same
command)

THEN you gain the power to combine to form the top level parent unit.

I think the error message (or whatever it is) should say

"combine unit"

or some other similar thing as a clue to the users (who might otherwise
believe that the parent is a problem because it does not exist)

Yes - technically the intermediate unit does not exist. But it isn't clear that isn't a
fatal issue.
