This has been asked in many threads, but so far I have not found a conclusive answer;

I understand that for ASW will try to find and hunt submarines, and the best setting is as low as you can afford (taking fatigue micromanagement into consideration)

But, I am in the early war, so ASW skills are greatly lacking; thus, I will like to keep Home island patrols on "naval search" until I got a first cadre of ASW pilots. I want my "naval search" to be at a good altitude for finding subs; at this point in the war I am not that worried about surface TF

Is 6,000 feet a good setting?
would 1,000 feet improve chances?

I use 1,000 feet, but range is more important. If you cut down the squadron's maximum range, they'll have more time to search and be more likely to find stuff.

I avoid using extended range; but mostly to reduce fatigue;

would you go half range? 2/3?

Depends on where the squadron's base is located, in relation to the sea lane I'm trying to provide air cover for.

Keep in mind ASW is half of their range anyways..

I usually do 2k or less
