Where's the carrier?

Post by ilovestrategy »

I was looking through my roster of burning ships *sigh* and found this task force which has the words "USN Carrier" but the list of 4 ships is only one cruiser and 3 destroyers. I don't get it. [&:]

Originally assigned the name "USNcarrier" in the editor... obviously you have lost those CV's or put them into another TF. Click on the name and you can rename any TF ...

A task force can be named anything. You can name it "Aunt Margret" if you want. It appears this was probably a CV task force at some point and the carrier was either sunk or split off into an Escort TF as a cripple. Since there was no longer a CV in the TF, the game engine retyped it to a Surface Combat TF, but it retained the original name.

I only started with the Enterprise, Lexington, and Saratoga. Enterprise got sunk on day one(I know, I know) and the other 2 carriers are enroute to Pearl, haven't been there yet and already have their own TFs. Maybe a mistake by the game in naming the TF?

It's like when Palpatine asked Vader about the Death Star... it's gone'in, he apparently replied wryly :)

Oh I get it. Those ships were with the Enterprise and came back to Pearl on their own! God, I am really dense at times. Be patient guys, I'm trying. [:D]

We've all made similar mistakes. If anyone figured out this game in a week, they are probably taking a break from working towards that third Nobel prize in science.

Though I would love to see an episode of the Big Bang Theory where Sheldon tries to conquer this game in a week. [:)]

A hint you may have already noticed. Whenever the game uses yellow text coloring it always (almost always?) means that is a hotpoint you can click on and either edit the text or go to another screen. Yellow text in the game is like blue underlined hotpoints on a Web page.

In the upper left corner of every TF screen you get a "memo" line in yellow where you can name the TF anything you like, maybe "Aunt Margaret." This name also shows up in your TF listing screen. When you get to the point you're doing very large amphib ops with 10-20 TFs this line will be very useful. You can label the TF with its job--"Saipan Wave 2 supply" for example. It helps organize things. I often use it to remind me what the TF was supposed to be doing in a month or something. "Get 1st Div fragments" is something I might do. It's up to you. You "own" that line for whatever you need to say.
