I want to share Symon's advices for everyone willing to play this scenario: The strategic imperitive, for Japan, is to survive and delay the Allied advance. And, as you have done, take a few places, like Tarawa. Everybody knows how Guadalcanal played out, and everybody knows when the US divisions were operational, so why butt your head against a brick wall? Japan has a lot of troops coming in as reinforcements. They probably have 3/5 to 2/3 of Allied troops, but arrival timing is critical. Look at your troop arrival in the editor and plan accordingly. The trick for Japan is to delay and sacrifice, while a realistic second and third line of defense is prepared. Have a list of units that you can throw into battle in out-of-the-way places like Tulagi or Russel Islands to disrupt the Allied build-up, but don't initiate the operation unless and until a reinforcement division is available. The idea is misdirection by sacrifice. While your sacrificial lambs are getting the attention of your opponent, your reinforcement divisions are deploying to, and digging in at, your first defensive line. And so it goes, on and on. Pushed back, step-by-step, but intelligently done, will grind the Allied advance into falting halts. Given that I don't mind if I win or lose I will send you this post to my opponet as well
