Status: offline 		So its late july 42 and the allies are getting ready for the invasion of the guadalcanal islands. So their three carriers (i know hornet and enterprise are part of the bunch) were coming through between tarawa and mili and bombed them on the way through. Now i have to carrier task forces based out of truk at the time. One was an all light carrier task force comprised of Zuiho, hosho, shoho, ryujo and unyo. I shot my light carrier task force down to try and scout them and keep an eye on them until they reached the guadalcanal islands. Kido butai comprised of , Kaga, hiryu, soryu, Shokaku, Zuikaka, Junyo, and Akagi were in for peirside repairs and needed aircraft replen and would be a three day wait before i could send them out to intercept. Well my last turn the allies spotted my light carrier task force and sent three waves against.... pretty much sinking all of my light carriers. Which is not really what i wanted.. I made a mistake. I set the reaction level to six accidentally and Tamaguchi was in charge of the TF and he got aggressive and decided to chase the americans.. So do you guys ever go back one turn at least once and try to correct a mistake you didnt want to happen.. I hate the idea... i think its cheating and gamey. What is all ya'lls opinion

Status: online 		Well, what to say? Best thing really; the therapy was going nowhere...

Honestly, when doing test-scenarios to get familiar, it ain't gamey (vs. the AI). But I would continue and see it as a challenge. I am playing 3 x PBEM atm; and in 2 of my PBEM games as Allies(!!!) (Guadalcanal) I already lost my carriers somehow, not doing anything stupid, mind you. I have to live with it and develop an alternative strategy!

It's not cheating if you're playing the AI. It doesn't know or care.

I don't believe in gamey.

War is full of mistakes. You'll learn more if you play on and accept what happened. But it's your time and your game and your memories.

Status: offline 		I counted playing against the AI as a learning game only, would restart and go back a turn all the time. Mistakes are the only way to learn, funny thing is that now I only play Pbem. I've made all those mistakes over again, but now I can't go back or restart and have to live with them.

Status: offline 		This is my first time playing a campaign... basically the whole game at that. So i am still developing strategy, the what nots and what do's.. i figured going back one turn wont be too gamey. I have plenty of time to make more mistakes and sink my own ships... i just want to work out my doctrine and strategys and then play the real campaign... i am playing that hokaiddo ichi campaign where you start off better then the japs did in real life

Status: offline 		i figured if i cant get away from the grasps of the allies after redoing the turn i'll just accept it and move on. Its only five light carriers... but so far those five light carriers have done more damage than kido butai has and i have a emotional tie to them lol

Status: offline 		I replay turns all the time ... whenever my opponent makes a silly error, I go back a turn (or two or three if necessary) to fix the oops.  Of course, I only play the AI ... no one else has patience for the pace of my games.

I'd accept the mistake and live without the light carriers, because the game will be more fun for you I believe. Your KB is still complete and AI might come with many blunders at you that will erode its carrier strength continuously. Like it is going to announce itself on every pass through the Marshalls. It also rarely forms larger carrier forces, but you have 7 big decks in your main formation already, which AI will hardly be able to counter except for the lucky hit. It does not adapt to that. You'll give yourself a much more challenging, exciting and interesting game in the long run without the CVL/CVE, and more so if you split off a CarDiv from KB now and then.

I play against the AI.

My rule is that something catestropic must happen as a result of an unplanned move. If I intentionally send a carrier out to see without escort, I live with the consequences. If it is not my intention (e.g., I create a task firce with a loe carrier and it automatically adopts thr course of the orevious task force - and I did not notice - I will rerun the turn.

I do not play to callenge myself to remember every game mechanic at all times. I play to enjoy strategy and tactics.

(Actually, out of 210 turns, I have done this once, When I intended to withdraw my carriers from a hazardous situation, sought to control the path of retreat by setting a way point, and forgot to turn off "remain at station" - consequently losing the two carriers)

I believe it is USS Hornet (CV-12). Hellcats are showing tail identification symbols of its air group. Carrier itself is of Essex class, with what I believe is Measure 33, design 10A camouflage.

Status: offline 		A lone jap sub scored 12 torp hits on 2 cruisers with escorts. Big time cheat IMO, but I kept playing. It's just a game and fun as it is, there will more disappointments, so why fuss over each one?

A Japanese I-boat in one 6 shot salvo scored 3 hits and sank Wasp , a hit on the DD O'Brien and a hit on the North Carolina. Big time cheat? No real life. Crap happens, both in real life and in the game. Just because you are unbelivably unlucky doesn't mean the game is broken.


What I referred to is that on the more difficult setting the AI does cheat. Basically it looks at your cards. AS DESIGNED. Not broken, but WAD.

Hi Jan, it's an art work I found one day while doing a Google search, afraid I don't know who it's done by. I assume the Carrier is USS Hornet (CV-12), as the hellcats are from VF-17 which belonged to Hornet.

If you ever want a Siggy there Jan just PM me with the type you want, and I'll work you up one between AE turns, might take a couple of weeks though.

Edit: I did resize/tint/soften the picture a bit though.
