Hi Folks,

I was looking at various things in Tracker and I noticed that VS-6 in Hamilton, NZ had a air leader with a value of zero. That's odd I thought, let's take a closer look... humm it's not there, nor is it listed under land or naval air units, nor is it in the destroyed units list. Then I search for VS-6 through the allied operations reports and find the interesting message below (aoperationsreport_430102.txt).

...
21st Infantry Regiment takes replacements from Suva
7th Marine Regiment takes replacements from Suva
VS-6 disbanding
Low garrison leads to damage and 1 VP loss from partisan attack at Poona (36, 26)!
xAK Seattle Maru is reported to have been sunk near Tarakan on Dec 31, 1941
...

It's 18 Jan 43 and Hamilton has ~4k supply and Auckland has +100k so it didn't disband for lack of supply. Next I look in the editor and notice that the unit is to be withdrawn by 3/1/43 coming back in early '45. The search for "disbanding" and see (aoperationsreport_430116.txt):

....
Delayed planes for the aircraft pool:
1 (0) x Beaufighter Ic, 2 (0) x F4F-4 Wildcat, 1 (1) x SBD-3 Dauntless
VT-2 on CV Yorktown converting to size 18 from 15
VS-3 on CV Yorktown disbanding
AK Cetus arrives at Alameda
...

And (aoperationsreport_421231.txt):
...
Repairs completed on SS Pickerel at Brisbane, ship returned to service
Repairs completed on SS Swordfish at Brisbane, ship returned to service
VS-2 disbanding
VT-3 converting to size 18 from 15
VS-5 disbanding
VT-5 converting to size 18 from 15
VT-6 converting to size 18 from 15
VT-8 converting to size 18 from 15
VT-71 on CVE Long Island converting to size 18 from 15
No.3 PRU RAF S-Flt converting to size 10 from 6
...

I assume that this is some sort of pre-programmed conversion of the US CV wings to the larger size units. Did the aircraft and pilots get dumped back into the pools? I looked up disbanding in the forum archives and searched through the manual but didn't see anything useful. I'm playing stock scenario 1 with the latest official release 1.0.6.1108r9 (I'd upgrade to the latest beta but my opponent is leery.)

Cheers,
Guy

They go into the pools. They "comeback" as VBF's in '45.

In March of 1943, historically USN CV groups re-organized; the "Scout" units were disbanded, and merged into the "Bomber" units, even though both types were equipped with SBD.

In game, the VS units all automatically disband in March 1943 (in most mods). The VB units, however, expand from 18 to 36 planes, provided you allow them to expand (Make sure you do)

The VS planes and pilots all go into the pool; wait a few days, and you can re-assign them to the VB units when they expand

It's a bit of a pain, and you have to be prepared for it, but takes a week or so to sort out
