Can anyone confirm the range from Saigon at which Kamikaze's are triggered for Japan? The rules say 15 hexes by sea, but I have a vague memory that had changed. Having said that I can't find any forum mention of it so I may be wrong and 15 is the number. Anyone know definitively?
Cheers and thanks for the help.

Kamikaze trigger range

I know this question came up at least once or twice before this thread (I remember Erstad asking about it and getting a good answer even longer ago than this), but this is the thread I came up with, and it has the answer you're looking for.

20 hexes it seems!!
Thanks very much for the help. I couldn't find that thread. I clearly have to work on my forum search technique.
Cheers

The manual had the old witp range. It wasn't revamped for the new hex scale for AE.

Hmmm... It is October 1944 in my game and my opponent has captured Muntok which is 20 from Siagon. I don't have the Kamikaze option yet on my units. I did have what appears to be a dedicated Kamikaze unit appear on the HI this turn, could that be my one for this day?

This is the original kamikaze activation thread. It predates the one given in post #2 and provides more details from michaelm.

I did a forum search for exactly that subject - "kamikaze activation trigger" and came up with nothing. How do you find these things so effectively?

The plot thickens. According to the thread referenced by Alfred, its 21 hexes - not 20. Beware!!!!

No. The references (link from Alfred) said "less than 21" hexes. That makes it 20.

Can't speak for what Alfred does, but I usually use google instead of the forum search, e.g.,

site:matrixgames.com kamikaze activation trigger

Yes quite some time ago, witpqs posted exactly how to go about initiating a google search. I think there are quite a few who prefer to use google rather than to rely on the Matrix search engine. I rely on the Matrix search engine because the results are usually satisfactory but I do suspect that using the google search engine instread may well be more efficient/effective.

Anyone know why this may not be working at range 20?

Thank you, kind sir. I thought I had read that before, but didn't see the critical part.

So right. (Hmm, which cartoon character used to say that)

The link I provided gave the additional info, such as airfield size, which was lacking in the first link given in post #2. As much as possible I attempt to provide primary "documents" rather than just relying exclusively on well meaning posts from non devs.

Muntok is 21 hexes from Saigon by sea movement, not 20. The first hex out of saigon is to the southeast.

You are correct. Still waiting on someone at the Home Islands to figure out how to train the pilots to do what needs to be done to kill the Allied Death Star running around...
