Think the AI has another problem, no wonder it cant keep up

I have seen this situation ever since the original DW was released. It does not happen all the time, but the AI research points are not helped by this construction mistake.

Its a good job that my research station is still a MK1, from MK4 onwards there fitted with heavy duty area effect weapons and all sorts of other nasty armaments
