Hi,

My computer is getting old and I would like to buy a new one (laptop). However, being a Steel Panther addict, I am wondering if it will still work on a new laptop (I already had this problem with other "old" games that won't start or run too fast on new computers).

Does any of you knows if SP will still work on a modern laptop ? Do you think that some brand have greater chances of compatibility ?

Thank you.

SPWAW does not work natively on Windows 7 64 bit. There is a graphics display bug that gives you funky colors like you are on a bad LCD trip.

However...the good news is that someone discovered a work around, you download a very small file and launch the game from this file and it changes the games settings to where the graphics problems are corrected.
It does not work 100% for me, sometimes I have to launch the game multiple times in order for it to correct itself.
And sometimes during the course of play the graphics will suddenly go back to the crazy colors. You have to save the game and then re launch the applications.

As far as brands go...I don't think there are any brands that will run the game better or worse. Just get what you want and try and get the best deal possible.
Once you make your selection and get the new system, come back here or PM me and I will either e-mail you the file or link you to it if I can remember where I got it.

If you play SPWW2 or SPMBT by SP Camo. Then those programs work just fine in Windows 7 64 bit.

If you are planning on getting Windows 8. Then I am afraid I cannot help you. But Windows 8 shares 95% of the same code base and Windows 7 so I would assume there would be no problems.

JMD: You might want to try my system, download SP (WAW) to a disc and when your talking to dealer/seller ask to test your game on his machine. also if it down work on one try another. I bought all my latest machines that way, if they turn you down for a demo, walk fast, the same machine is available elsewhere. Works for me....

just an idea ?
(i didn't have tested that myself with USB here, but i have two HDD's in my desktop 'who dont know of each other' one with Win XP 32, and one with Win 7 / 64 to avoid win7/64bit problems of programs in the past)

if the laptop is able to boot from USB, wouldn't it be possible to install an older Windows version (the version you are using right now) on an USB-Stick, then install Steel Panther on that stick too (and maybe some other older games) and when you like to play, plug-in that stick, restart the laptop, and here you go....

JMD, winSPWW2 and winSPMBT are good games. They are free as well.

Downside to SPWAW or older versions is the full screen only 800x600 4:3 ratio. Not so good on a wide screen.

I don't see an issue using widescreen and this ration resolution. Too many people are just too nitpicky about graphics you should load up an old 8bit commodore 64 game and plat it a bit and then you won't be so picky about the less older stuff on a new monitor.
