Defensive air support?

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

The critically and fan-acclaimed Eastern Front mega-game Gary Grigsby’s War in the East just got bigger and better with Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: Don to the Danube! This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

Defensive air support?

Post by sjohnson »

Does it no longer work? I have a 43 head to head game - yes, I'm playing against myself testing various things and I can't ever seem to get German defensive air support to fly.

I've checked the following:

1) readiness levels OK; ready to fly setting at 0% hoping to get someone to take off
2) support requirements at bases not overloaded
3) all airbases within 5 hexes of their HQs
4) all air bases moved to within 5-7 hexes of the front
5) air doctrine settings - ground support 30%; escort 40%
interdiction set to 0%
intercept set to 80%

So none of the Fw-190F, Ju87G, Hs129B, Ju87D or any level bomber ever seems to take off in defensive air support despite the Soviets sending 150-200 planes in a typical large attack.

I do see some interception, just maybe 1 defensive air support effort of 15-20 bombers out of every 20-30 attacks.

By the way, I see the same thing in my PBEM/server game.

There could be many reason air units not flying (including some bug). I suggest to post a save with clear steps to reproduce it. I could take a look and provide some comments.

Do you mean air defense, like interception? All aircraft listed are ground attack types and I wouldn't want them to do air defense. I'd want them to "hide" and be available for ground support next turn.

Nope - I mean air support; like defensive air support when the enemy attacks your ground troops. Defensive ground support missions seem spotty to commit at best - and mostly my 1,500 bombers and tactical bombers just sit at their airbases - maybe 1-2% sortie per week.

Hi Helpless,

I will post some example save files in the tech support forum.

Thanks
