Hi Folks,

I'm using them as night intruders against an invasion fleet at Nadi with the P-70s operating out of Suva. So far all they have done is shell an AP or two.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Night Air attack on TF, near Nadi at 131,160

Weather in hex: Heavy cloud

Raid spotted at 16 NM, estimated altitude 15,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 4 minutes

Allied aircraft
      P-70 Havoc x 12

Allied aircraft losses
      P-70 Havoc: 1 damaged

Japanese Ships
      xAP Kokuryu Maru
xAP Yoshino Maru, Shell hits 3

Japanese ground losses:
      29 casualties reported
         Squads: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled
Non Combat: 0 destroyed, 4 disabled
         Engineers: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled

Aircraft Attacking:
      12 x P-70 Havoc bombing from 100 feet

What's the correct way to use these puppies? I assume using them as day fighters would be suicidal against decent opposition.

Cheers,
Guy

Well, you could use them as night fighters.

What's the actually training level and have you tried a different attack altitude?

They're pretty good at disrupting night bombing if your opponent uses it. I'd save them for that rather than kill off the small numbers you get with low level attacks.

Hi Obvert,

We were doing a lot of night bombing in the 1st six months of the war but made a gentlemens agreement to stop based on the meager results and the cluttering of the combat reports. On some days (nights?) the night bombings would make up 80% of the combat report with a total of 2 a/c lost and 2 points of airfield damage. Our exceptions are night strategic bombing and specialized night units.

Cheers,
Guy
