Here are my Japanese top aces. At this stage of the war it's really hard to keep them alive.

Or just download Greenshot and make it a whole lot easier...

It is hard to make and ace. Especially in a zero or 1st generation Allied fighter. From the screenies I am seeing it looks like the designers got it just about prefect.

Once the second generation Allied planes come on line. Kill numbers and pilot skills really start to rise, and not just for a few pilots. Still, I get upset when a top pilot goes down. My leading ace General Lawlor went MIA and I opened up the game for the next six months hoping he would show up in the OP report as found. Regrettably, he has not been heard of again.

In a hard fought campaign vs Viberpol. Scen #2. Dec 18 1944.

It takes some work getting a pilot to 20 kills and keeping him alive.

How are the rest of you guys making out? Email games only. Vs the AI is a different story. Show me the screenies.

Ha! Ross, I think you might be interested in a view from "the other side of a mirror"... ;)
It's not easy to get my pilot a double ace but I still have quite a few...
I think that Michael, when he took the file to clear the unit/base/bug couple of months ago, cleared also our database purging all unnecessary (killed) pilots for us.

None got more than 15 kills but take a look at the number of missions... some have more than a thousand.

I created a mod specifically to put all my male friends and relatives (and myself) into the game as pilots. I have to say, you really think twice about sending units into harms way when you know many of the pilots by name. Watching the air-to-air combat screens can be excruciating, especially when you see your name up there and realize that Zero on your tail is not giving up.

Yep, I am surprised at the figures as I expected them to be higher but it looks to be right on target. A Japanese ace has to be a very high quality pilot and the real happy time for them is 1942. Allied aces get better rides and do not need to be as skilled as Japanese. Some of my double aces are only in the 70s in both experience and air skill.

The Allied aces that I built up in 42 mostly gained their stripes by shooting down bombers in defensive battles over home airbases. Now that I am on the offensive more are dying but many more are being made. Once Japan loses a top pilot, he is pretty much gone.

So far the only pbemail game where there pilots looked like supermen was Greyjoy's game against Rader. But Rader likes to use his Japanese planes en mass and has a different philosophy about using air power than most of us.
