Hi,

Firstly, I'd class myself as a casual gamer, so I'm not interested in games with a huge learnng curve or lots of micro-management.

I'm looking for an RTS or TBS wargame that allows the player to make use of terrain. In the old "Cossacks" game you could place artillery units on higher ground and thus bombard the enemy without fear of having your units destroyed by enemy artillery. However you'd have to ensure they were well guarded by other military units otherwise enemy cavalry would soon destroy them. Other elements I'd like are being able to construct either walls and/or guard towers and/or forts. Not top down view. Skirmish play mode is desirable. As I wish to make use of terrain I want a game that either doesn't have aircraft or permits them being excluded from use. The game must have Single Player mode. Multi Player mode is not necessary. I find resource collection boring so the fewer types of resources to collect the better.

Elements of game:

Use of high ground and other terrain features to give advantage.

Build walls/towers/forts.

Single Player.

Skirmish Mode or Sandbox Mode.

Aircraft not part of game or can be excluded.

Intuitive interface.

Little or no micro-management.

Not a LONG learning curve.

Not Top Down View.

Games that look good on Wide Screen monitor.

I've spent a couple of hours perusing the games on offer here and the titles that initially spark my interest are: Scourge of War: Gettysburg, HISTORY Great Battles Medieval and Spartan (maybe too old). "Field of Glory" would be great but the graphics look pretty dated.

I'm currently downloading the demo of Scourge of War: Gettysburg but due to my poor internet speed and connection reliability it may take several hours so I thought I'd just ask for some of your thoughts re games that might meet at least most of the above criteria.

Looking forward to your ideas.

Cheers,

Scourge is awesome. But you might have to do some micro management at times.

another vote for Scourge of War. If you stick to the smaller battles it should meet most requirements as per above, and also as per above, it is 'awesome' :-)
