How can you find out the maximum number of cards a general can keep.

Manual does not specify how you can know.

Many thanks for any help.

For DCCB the manual is not up to date. Command points for card use has been capped to 20 in CB in a patch, so you might find some info in the patch notes.

It could be a different system in WtP as that doesnt sound quite right. Each general has a number of cards he can play depending on whether he is at Front/Army command or Army/Corps command (Soviet/Axis organisation). Each officer builds up points each turn and when he reaches the number of points for a card he is able to play it. The number of points built up depends on the general in the range of 1 to 4 (the worse Soviet generals and some Italian, Hungarian and Romanian generals have 1 per turn contrasted with Manstein who has 4).

So the generals dont keep the cards, they can only play a card that they have points for at their level of command. Generals only have a specific number of cards they can play and this varies depending on the general. Some generals have better offensive cards and some have better defensive cards if that was their particular speciality.

The points that each general can save up only go up to a maximum of 20 under the latest patch, so once they reach 20 it is worthwhile using a card as they wont gain any more points after that.
