And so it begins.

The Serbian Enemy can only slap Austro-Hungary in the face with so many various sausages until War is declared.

Without further ado, the Austro-Hungarian Empire declares war.

I attack the Serb Garrison, but do not destroy them....Curses!

Warspite will be cock-a-hoop!!

Turn 1 – 23rd July 1914

Cock-a-hoop indeed sir!!

However, there is nowhere for the Garrison to go, and I order it to manfully stands and awaits its certain end….

Meanwhile, my Belgrade Infantry take a pot shot at the AH Garrison that has strayed too close, and in best Beano and Dandy styleee, Field Marshal Putnik clenches his fist and shouts across the trench line "Grrr, take that you rotter".

Turn 2 – 30th Jul 1914

The Serb Garrison is indeed pounded into oblivion and now the Serbs wait to see which way the AH go; left or right??

Turn 3 – 6th August 1914

...and the answer is? Er both... the sneaky Empire keeps Infantry near Sarajevo and moves another east of Belgrade. The latter, along with two Garrison units, seemingly head for Nis.

Meanwhile, Liege falls to the German Army and the Boche are now threatening Brussels.

Sneaking!? SNEAKING!!!?

If your sneaky 'Black Hand' members had'nt shot our beloved heir, none of this would be happening!!!!

Austro-Hungary demands redress in the face of unwarranted Serbian aggression sir!!

Antwerps position is hopeless.

The important element with Antwerp is to ensure no elements of the BEF can land in it or in its environs, thus securing the northern flank from British interference.

The Germans score a great victory at Tannenburg and almost obliterate a Russian garrison, which is forced to retreat in pieces.

Yes, my valiant Serbs try the "lets paint a red ring around our position" technique. Text book.

It was a well known tactic to paint red rings around units to make them invulnerable.

The game becomes more and more exciting!!

Antwerp succumbs to a massive combined Artillery and Infantry assault.

Meanwhile, panic grips France as the German steamroller advances.

In the South, the Serbs desperately try to throw the Austro-Hungarian Empire by advancing on Budapest!!!
( marked by the arrow )

Canny Warspite tries to upset the AH timetable...will he pull it off, or will he be left with just a limp?

Lemberg is repeatedly assaulted, but somehow manages to hold out.....relief is not far away ( I hope )

German pressure threatening Paris, causes the French to retreat from the frontier in disarray.

Belgrade falls. Hip Hip Huzzah!

Warspites plucky defenders are wiped out in a barrage of shot and shell as AH troops storm the city.

Turn 9:-

The French try to stem the German advance....

After a couple of hair raising turns around Lemberg ( in which Warspite blew two of my Garrisons to pieces, and cut off Lemberg from the rest of the Empire ), I manage to stabilize the front with the arrival of much needed German reinforcements. Phew!!

The corpse-like Ottaman Empire joins the Central Powers.

Warspite, I think you're too quick to give up entrenched positions in the West. For example, in post no 16, I can understand abandoning the hexes nearest Verdun, but why fall back from the three hexes close to the Swiss border?

He he he.
Warspite is reduced to living on his nerves, wearing a dishevelled WWI British Army uniform, swigging from a half empty whiskey bottle, waving his revolver in the air and shouting ' Hold them at all costs boys!!'

I thought, having beaten the AI easily at the first time of asking, I was quite good at this game - that was before I lost about 5 in a row (1x CP and 4 x Entente)...and counting

Now Empire has me on the rack too. I can understand now why my wife says this to me all the time:

As a strange coincidence, we have that poster framed in our bathroom.

How ironic warspite; everytime I sit on the loo, I'll think of you.

Turn 9 ( cont'd )

In the South, huge swirling battles ensue between the combatatants, and warspite nearly takes down another Korps ( Garrison unit ).
Both Armies are like two punch drunk boxers, unsure where the next blow will fall.

Very exciting game, and my opponent serves up a surprise every turn, unnerving Central Powers High Command.

Turn 11:-

Warspites Russian Fleet ambushes the German Heavy Cruisers near Turko, but thankfully fail to break through to my convoy.

Warspite is an aggressive Naval Power player, and is not afraid to use his ships in the great tradition of the Royal Navy, 'If in doubt, engage the Enemy wherever you find them'.

This has made me far more wary of naval adventures.

In the East, Lemberg holds out against determined Russian assaults, but warspites excellent preparation means the battle is far from over.
I await events.

Turn 12

The German High Seas Fleet deals a crippling blow to the Russian Baltic Fleet.

Lemberg is stabilised yet again. Warspite continues to apply heavy pressure to this sector of the front.

The Turks advance on Suez!!

I forgot to mention that Warspite landed in Calais ( that I foolishly left undefended ) around turn 10 with a British Inf unit and scared the bejesus out of me!!

The German High Command had to immediately remove themselves to the corner shop and buy a ( very ) small bottle of Jagermeister, and take a few snorters to quell the rising panic!!

Luckily I had enough spare troops at hand to almost destroy the British unit ( reduced to a yellow 1 Strength ), before they re-embarked and disappeared over the horizon.

The down side of all of this is that this diversion stopped the advance on Paris. Clever Warspite....curse him!!!!

Now I join Moltke in the Great Hall of the Prevaricators.

But I can't find the screenshots, so you'll all have to take my word for it!

Yes, I had nothing better to do, so I thought I would get the British Army to practice what it would be like evacuating troops from a French port while surrounded by the dastardly boche...you never know that kind of knowledge may come in handy in... oh, i don't know, circa 25 years time
