Status: offline 		So I've got both the Saratoga and Lexington in Pearl Harbor (lvl 9 port), both damaged after a carrier clash on pierside critical repair. lady lex 30, 10 (5X), 14 and Saratoga 22, 5(5), 12 (3X). Here is my confusion.

Lady lex has 44 non major damage which can be repaired in 19 days, but it cannt repair the 5 points of major floatation damage. Odd. Note there are a few AA batteries that need to be repaired / in red. Is this why the major floatation damage cannot be repaired except in shipyard?

Saratoga has 39 points of damage and five points of major floatation damage which can be repaired in 29 days. BUT the major engine damage cannot be repaired even though none of the weapons systems are damaged. Will these 3 points be repairable after the 5 points of major floatation damage repairs (the 5 point major damage repair rule), and I wont have to do a thing. Or will I have to put her in shipyard to make the final 3 points of major repairs?

Status: offline 		Major damage requires shipyard repair, though I think an AR can repair major damage under 5 points. The "X" next to the damage amount indicates that the damage cannot be repaired in the current repair mode.

Status: offline 		AR can only repair major engine damage up to 5 points, not flotation damage.

Status: offline 		other than a shipyard (of the correct capacity ) major floatation could be repaired by an ARD ..... but i do not think there is an ARD big enough for a CV.

Status: offline 		On rare occasions I have seen a couple of points major flotation damage repaired at a large base with lots of naval support, without using a drydock [but may have used the expertise and shops of a shipyard]. This may be a die-roll situation where a good roll means the flotation damage could be repaired by welding some patches over the holes.

In most cases flotation damage also means warped frames and severely dented hull plates that need to be removed. Only a drydock big enough to take the ship enables you to do that.

Status: offline 		USN gets 5 ARDs, the ABSD-type, w/ 55,000 ton capacity.

AR should be able to repair major flt/eng damage so long as the total of both types of major damage is 5 or less.

also i would have thought that a major port lvl-7 or better had the ability to repair small amounts of major damage from pierside mode, per Alfred's Ship Repair Guide part 11:

Yes, it is random. Sometimes I will have a DD in port that will repair a point or two of flotation or engine while pierside and then the next one will not.
