Plimus Store Question - 11/21/2012 11:44:24 PM

Hi,

I am planning to invest some of my money into one of your games, but I've got a question about the Plimus Store. The game I want to buy will be payed per paypal and it will be the digital option, so no cd and no package to be delivered. But here comes my problem: The Plimus store still wants me to give them my adress, name, telephone number etc. and I am honestly a little hesitant, because I don't see the reason, why I should. I now, people are very carefree with their date since facebook, but I am not.
My question is: Will this data input be of any importance later on? Or is it just for their database? If I, let's say, accidently make a typo in my adress (I've got really cold hands, bad circulation...), will this affect my purchase in any way? Or will I still get the download code send to the email adress, as long as the email adress is correct and paypal working?

Thank you, for your answers. :)

I am no pro on this subject at all but I think the reason is that this is a way for PayPal to confirm that the purchase is being made by the rightful owner of the PayPal account. I could be dead wrong but it would make sense the way I view it, same for anyone purchasing with a credit card. Making sure the purchasers address matches the credit card account name and address.

Another view and this strictly on marketing: just a way for corporations to gather database info on their consumers.

But isn't the idea behind paypal, that the store I buy from doesn't get all the informations about me?

Good Question! I am not sure about that!

It would be nice though to be able to purchase stuff unanimously though.

Which game is it you are trying to buy and I can have a look and check. This data definitely helps with tech support later, as it can be very hard to match up a purchase in Paypal with our system without the data. This is fine if all goes well but if you need support from us it can make life very difficult - e.g. you want to download again in 6 months time or you want us to look up your serial. This data does not get used for mailing lists or anything like that. To be honest PayPal is a complete mess and dealing with them is a nightmare. I wouldn't use PayPal if you paid me but its your choice :)

I've seen some orders come in recently with completely fake names through PayPal.

I just want to warn against this. This might seem like a good idea but what happens when you want help in 6 months or 2 years time? We will have no way of looking up your purchase and will be unable to help you. I just want you to be aware of this when placing your orders as we physically cannot generate download links without locating orders in the system. It's a core part of how it works and not something we can bypass. I guess I'm saying if you do this, don't come crying to us later on! :)

I have to agree with Iain on this one. As much as Plimus has made me upset, and they did, it's a good idea to do as Iain suggests so they can help you with any issues down the road.

I got burnt using PayPal. Never again. I also agree with Iain on that one.

Dear Blutwurst,

As Iain stated Plimus needs the actual details when using Paypal for many reasons, one being the ability to assist in locating your order if ever needing to re-download. Another is for security purposes to verify you are the actual Paypal account holder.

I can assure you that your details are not sold or redistributed once entered, as we do not work with such companies. We appreciate you purchasing through us and we're glad to hear you completed the transaction.

Whatever you do never keep funds in a Paypal account. Having funds frozen for no reason is crap. Additional, if Paypal has your real info their no more safe then any other place on the net in fact they have been reported to share consumer data. Several business news sites reported this around the beginning of the year, just Google it for details. Now with that said I have used Paypal on occasion. I just don't expect any real privacy with them over any other place out there.

Paypal have just limited our account for no reason and with no warning and we're not clear what effect that has. I don't know if this effects anyone placing orders but we're trying to find out and fix the issue ASAP. Apologies if it is causing you issues.

Do I need to explain more about Paypal...
