I found at least two more Jap BB's and got a torp hit on one of them. I need to evacuate the Hermes from the location it's at now to some-
thing safer.....somewhere south a little.

The Japs are still ground pounding my Rabaul defenders. Why I don't know. Maybe to try to destroy it from the air. It's headed for
Gastama.

It looks like the HML Hermes is threatened on the West and the East and a retreat might be in order. I'm pulling her south to more where
I'm in range for the Jap landings on Ternate. Maybe I can terminate the Ternate turmoil.

Here's a potential situation. The Japs may head for Ballikpapan at any moment but I've got a TF of transports headed there any way.
I'm thinking I might just have one more chance to grab those resources at Balikpapan before the Japs can get them. They don't re-
spawn like supplies or fuel or oil at Balik so once they are gone they are gone.

EDIT: I realized that I could have done a much better job explaining the situation more fully. See post below for details.

Here's the situation around the Balikpapan to the east area. Hermes is threatened and is going to attack in a new direction, south, to get
away from the Japanese big guns and see if they can't terminate the threat at Ternate. There looks to be another invasion TF w/ at
least one AP headed for Davao I'm guessing. Ternate is falling soon maybe, tonight or in the morning tomorrow. The game engine
won't allow me to turn off production at Balikpapan so B. is still spilling out fuel and oil like mad. I've finally installed some mines at
Tarakan and have made that location as secure as I can. I've sent the CM's to bases where there is an HQ to pick up some more mines
to lay in various places. There aren't very many British planes in Borneo and I'm wondering if I should move some from Singapore to
Singkawang or someplace. Problem w/ that is that Singers needs all the planes it has too. So we'll make do for now.

Here's the situation around Karachi. I've got convoys going to and from Abadan and Karachi and also convoys going to and from
Colombo from Karachi so supplies are being brought from Abadan to Karachi and thence to Colombo. And then the idea is to convey it
from Colombo to the other hubs in the net. Like Perth and thence to Melborne and then thence to Sydney etc. Karachi is going to be
one of those problem cities where the Light Industry is larger then the Resource Centers and therefore will probably need a net import of
resources to keep the light industry going. There's a huge drop-off in the amount of supplies from the coast going inland which leads
me to believe that the roads aren't moving supplies very well in this scenario.

The idea was to collect all the ships headed to points on the east coast of Oz at Horn Island until I could get an escort there to H.I. to
help the collection of ships get past the isthmus and into the waters of the east coast proper. And then the escort could kiss them good-
bye and head back north to get another collection of ships headed east from Darwin. But now I'm seeing the collection get up to 8 TF's
and I'm wondering if it's even save to have that many ships in one place. I suppose so for now.

I just discovered quite by accident that the scenario has the 298th Inf Rgt already fragmented. Cool. So I won't have to do that. I'm in
favor of fragmenting units because that allows you the ability to taylor your forces w/ just the ingrediants you want. More tanks in one
group than another, not a problem. Also, I've noticed by playing the Japs against Jim Moore, some of your units are going to end up
fragmented anyway without you having anything to do with it. Even HQ units. I'm constantly moving fragments to their parent(s) to make
whole units again. I've decided that having whole units is best if you can afford it but using fragmented units is next best so you can
adjust the AV to suit the situation. No more overkill needed. It especially works well in China when you have a unit w/ an AV of 37 and
the garrison requirement calls for only 20. Etc.

I've got an AVD parked on the French Frigate Shoals and it's got an ASW level of 2 but I'd feel more secure about that ship if it had some
kind of escort or company to help w/ the ASW duties. And the Trevor crew volunteered to drive up there and do some minesweeping
for a while and watch for subs. I think I'm now ready to send a Catalina out to the shoals to take a look around further to the west and
north.

TF 401 is a DD that's headed for Horn Island where there's something like 8 TF's waiting for an escort to the south regions. There's
another DD headed for Horn Island from the south who will take over as escort and let TF 401 head for Darwin for more ships to escort
to the south. There's been a sinking both north and south of Horn Island so escorts are necessary.

Here's the situation near Wake. I'm thinking the two northernmost TF's are headed NE to meed up w/ an as yet unseen TF or TF's that
are headed toward Wake. So I'm sending the carriers north to investigate further and maybe head off any invasion plans Elmer might
have.

TF 407 is two survivors of the bombing at Rangoon headed for Calcutta at 3 knots. You'd think I'd seperate them and let the 9 knot ship
speed on ahead to Calcutta but I'd rather keep them together. That way, if one of them sinks then the other one can pick up the
survivors. The both look like they need some substantial time in the repair yard so I guess there's no hurry to be getting them to
Calcutta.

TF 455 is the Argonaut coasting around looking for Jap ships off the coast of Tokyo and a little to the west of there. It's just arrived at it's
station and hasn't broken the water-tight seal on the outter doors yet. I'm expecting a lot of traffic where she is and there should be a
ship along any minute now.

I'm especially interested in the progress of TF 492, which is a TF of TK's and AO's carrying almost 61K in fuel. They are leaving Pearl
and are bound for Oz. Not much in the way of an escort for the TF but at least it's got somebody. Maybe I should trade that PC escort
for a DD or something.

If this ship left Eastern USA on 21Dec and it's 24Dec now and there's 5 more days of travel then that means it's about an 8 day trip from
Eastern USA to Cristobal going at 12 knots.

TF 550 is a CM w/ 75 mines and I'm sending him to Singkawang to lay another 75 mines in the existing minefield just to discourage any
Jap subs and or surface ships that might happen by. I don't remember how many mines are already there, I think 75, so this addition will
make a difference I'm hoping. It might be too late to send another CM into the fray and I may lose this ship but I think it's worth the try.

I have studied the relative capacities of Lunga and Tassafaronga and have concluded that the southernmost position is better for a
future base and I'd probably better find some engineers to build a port and an airbase there and I'll just call it Guadacanal.

EDIT: Oh, and I almost forgot to tell you that there are most likely 150 mines at Tulagi now. This CM is tending the minefield.

I've got this Dutch CM at Tarakan, and it has already laid a 75-mine field at Tarakan and it's tending the field now and the question is:

Is it time to start driving south?

That nearest Jap TF looks to be headed East and therefore not a threat immediately, but the problem is that there might be TF's I don't
see yet that are headed for Tarakan. I'm going to let him tend a while longer for now and keep an eye on the situation, especially
tomorrow.
